171 W JQ Class History As our tra1n of thoughts pass back, we th1nk of our high school days Ah' They are the memorable ones We boarded the 'Vestal Fliern 1U the Vestal Central School Statlon, September, 1941 At last we were to take a trip long antlclpated Ken Mosher ushered us 1nto the year, with Caryle Stewart, Howard Jensen and Louis Hill ably 8SS1StiHg One of our prlze days of th1s year was Student Day For once the teachers had to wa1t in line We must not forget our assembly program of that year w1th Don Hamon coming to the rescue of Norma Marsh, who played the part of Evelyn Lawton's little sister We stopped 'The Fliern long enough for Mr Salmon to climb aboard We were a proud bunch when we rolled out of the statlon Harry Llndsay was our engineer, w1th Alice Mae Panza, Shirley McMullen, and Joe North as conductors Our b1g event was a skatlng party held at the Roller torlum We had a swell t1me, even if we d1d take a few spllls Th1s year Vestal Central Hlgh was honored by having the annual music festlval 1D May Our th1rd year found WThe Flier prouder than ever It was loaded heavier than ever before w1th M81H9 sending students to Vestal lntroduced getting our class rlngs 1n our JUDIOP year And then came t1me for the HProm ' We surely showed Vestal what our class was made f Shlrley McMullen was chosen May Queen Ken Warner, as presldent of the IUHIOF class, accepted the 'Colden Bearn from the '44 Ind1ans Immediately we began to th1nk of what honors we would bestow upon him The traln rolled out of the Statlon a bit late 1n '44, but lt dld not take us long to catch up to our regular pace We voted Alice Mae Panza as our class leader, agaln breaklng the precedent of former classes Mable Jackson, Lois Moulton, and Dick Dennis made up the rest of the staff When we thought about the yearbook, we resolved to make the best one ever publlshed Our bear was glven honors by the sportsmen of the class R1Ch8Fd Dennis, Joe Miller, Robert Shirley, Louis Hlll, Donald Hamon, Ralph Scott, Forrest Potter, and Clarence Holdren The SGUIOP play was held March 16 It was a great success As we received our diplomas, our thoughts were wlth the boys in the service who would not receive them Kenard Mosher, Frank Mlddendorf, Harrv Lindsay, and Vern Lightner Yes, we often think of our high school days, and wonder why they had to pass so swlftly Only now do we realize WThe Flier' was the fastest train the class of '45 w1ll ever board A 'll A X Q, , as rt ' , ' . . Class Poem The Senior Class of forty five, Presents to you, this b1t of J1V6 It's not been long slnce we were through, And so we'd l1ke to brlng to you A brief account of our time in school The time that determines a w1t or a fool In our four years at Vestal High, There's been llttle Instead, we've gone All Sorts of things To all who th1nk we Just ask Miss Smith time for being shy ahead and done w1th lots of fun haven't worked, If we have shlrked Dear Ones, we hope that you will share Our sadness when we take our leave, And in the hopes that you won't grieve Our partlng too much, fdear old soulsl, We'll promise some will reach the1r goals The memorles of our high school days, Wlll llnger on like SUHSh1H6 And though we're rather glad We'll really miss the school rays we're through and you We've learned to love old V And what it stands for, more or less The t1me has come to end this line We've tried so verv hard to rhyme A few worn thoughts in a different Way, But what we really want to say Is thanks a lot and God bless each Who've helped us toward the ends we' ll reach Bruce Ellis 3 And to our teachers goes this prayer: ' .
