A BbAZE OF GbORY.. DEDIG AT EES MRS. PATRICIA CHRISTENSEN As the editors of the yearbook, we would like to thank Mrs. Patricia Christensen in this way. She has dedicated a good nart of her life as a teacher at Vestaburg Community Schools. She has given one of the most valuable things in life, her time, unselfishly to teaching stu- dents English and Spanish. She has soent many hours working with stu- dents in the Spanish Club, who are earning money to go to Mexico. You have given so much Mrs. C. that this seems a very small way of say- ing Thank You’’. Even though this is the last of a Spanish Club, we'll remember, with gratitude, the many things you have done for us. THANK YOU MR. PHIL FRISBIE 2 The name of Phil Frisbie Frisbie is well known in the Vestaburg community as well as in all of Montcalm County. Mr. Frisbie was raised in Stanton and, except for his art schooling in California, has taught in this area for many years. Not only is Mr. Frisbie known for his teaching, but he and his wife raised 2 sons here in Vestaburg;he drove bus for the Vestaburg Schools; and he is active in the Vestaburg Church of Christ. His support for the Vestaburg Wolverines is shown by the artwork on the Pressbox overlooking the football field and by the Wolverine which is on dis- nlay in the high school gym. We, the members of the Annual Staff, would like to publically thank Mr. Phil Frisbie for all of the years of dedicated service and caring he gave as a teacher and friend to the people in the Vestaburg community. Students of Vestaburg, for the first time, were honored to be hosts to two brilliant, talented foreign exchange stud- ents. Bente Foelckel's(Germany) American parents were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson, of Vestaburg. We'll always remember her friendly smile and cheerful spirit. Gustavo Vargus'(Columbia) American parents were Mr. and Mrs. Art Throop of Vestaburg. We all enjoyed teaching Gus English as much as we liked learning some Spanish. While here, Gus and Bente both at- tended U.S. History class to learn about our country. Gus' other classes were: Physics, English, Anatomy and Physio- logy, Trigonometry and Math Analysis, Psychology, Basic Writing and Teen Lit. Bente's days consisted of Artll, Business Math, P.E.III, P.E.IV, Short Story, Jour- nalism, Government and Economics. While in Journalism class Bente was involved in publishing the school newspaper. Thank you Gus and Bente, for bright- ening up the halls of Vestaburg Highl 3 DEDICATION.......................................... 2 ACTIVITIES......................................... 11 SENIORS............................................ 25 UNDERCLASSMEN...................................... 9 SPORTS.............................................. 6 3 ORGANIZATIONS...................................... I'll say it clear I'll state my case of which I'm certain. I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and ever'y highway And more, much more than this I did it my way. Regrets, I've had a few But then again too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it thru without exemption I planned each chartered course. Each careful step along the by way and more, much more than this, I did it my way. CLASS MOTTO: It matters not what you are thought to. be, but what you are. 40 Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew when I bit off more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall sind did it my way. I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had my fill, my share of losing And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing. To think, I did all that, and may I say Not in a shy way Oh no, oh no, not me, I did it my way. For what is a man, what has he got If not himself, then he has not to say the words he truly feels And not the words of those who kneels The records show, I took the blows, And did it my way. Words by Paul Anka Sung by Elvis Presley GbASS POEM MEMORIES Memories are made of things That happen everyday Moments as ve live them Things ve do or say Little hits and pieces Of laughter mixed with tears Paragraphs and pages Written through the years The carefree days of childhood The growing pains of youth A few illusions shattered In an endless search for truth The friendships ve remember Mistakes that ve regret The ending of a love affair We never will forget Memories are happenings Each one a different kind Each one a separate chapter That is printed on the mind We can't erase the sadness Or edit out the tears We can't undo the wrongs ve've done We can't relive the years But since memories keep building Each day can be the start Of making new and happy ones To store within your heart. Walking down that aisle on June Uth seemed so short in comparison to the many years of work, Joy and special times that we had experienced. They say it is commencement. It means a beginning, not an end. The thirteen years that we were here is only a base on which we can stand on while we forge into a new life. Go forward. Seniors of '78, but always keep fond your many memories of VHS. Graduation Benediction was given by Kurt Peasley. Mrs. Martha Kresnak was honored on her retirement for 11 years of service as a teacher in the Vestaburg Schools. Mr. Showers presented a plaque to her. The Juniors put up a good fight but were unable to hold back the scoring by the Seniors. Both teams worked hard for that game but the Seniors had a year's experi- ence advantage over the Juniors. VHS paid for the advertisement and the referees. The money taken at the gate was split by the Juniors and Seniors. When a winner makes a mistake, he says, I was wrong ; when a loser makes a mistake, he says, It wasn't my fault. A winner goes through a problem; a loser goes around it, and never gets past it. A winner makes commitments; a loser makes promises. A winner says, I'm good, but not as good as I ought to be ; a loser says I'm not as bad as a lot of other people. A winner tries to learn from those who are superior to him; a loser tries to tear down those who are superior to him.
