VESTABURG HIGH SCHOOL ■«.111 ’73-74 EDITOR'S NOTE This past year the goal of the Annual Staff has been to make changes and improvements with the purpose of pub lishing a better yearbook than has ever before been introduced at V.H.S. I believe we have accomplished this. And so, on behalf of the entire yearbook staff and our advisor, Ron Cain, I present to you, the student body, your 1973-'74 yearbook and the many memories it contains within its pages. Carol Horton Editor “TO SHOW OUR APPRECIATION FOR YOUR HELP, PATIENCE, EFFICIENCY AND YOUR MANY OTHER REMARKABLE ABILITIES.” Mrs. Tubbs has been a resident of Vestaburg all her life. She graduated from Vestaburg High School in 1938 and held the position of President throughout her Senior year. She began helping us, the students, in 1961 when she was hired as a part-time cook. Eventually she became head cook. As a result of having attended Davenport Business College, Mrs. Tubbs began her duties as secretary in August of 1966 under Jack Ingles. Since that time she has worked under many new bosses and has seen long-time familiar faces gradually replaced by younger, anxious, less-experienced ones. And many have peered over her counter. So, after eight years of living next to telephone and typewriter, Mrs. Tubbs, it's time we let you know that your efforts certainly haven't gone by unnoticed or unappreciated. It is in this small but sincere way, therefore, that we wish to express our gratitude and to say. Thank you . 2 SENIORS s HONOR STUDENTS Catherine M. Armour •Stewart A. Beach •Timothy P. And lam hurt. For the offers rebutted For the love denied, and the opportunities missed. If you could only see. If you could only know. That true, pure, love, is trying to save the unsavable. Trying to rescue the suicidal, and caring for something. That couldn't care less. To love something. Is to shout look out as it rushes towards its doom. To guide and direct the blind man, as he stumbles along, unknowing, unaware It's to offer to help it, when it's considered beyond help. To save it from itself. But then to have that love resented. Is it too late to realize. That is was love, not hate? We'll never know. Maybe we couldn't make it clear. But we tried. — Ralph D. Ward February 21, 1974 Class Flower: Tinted Carnations— Burgundy and Navy Blue Class Colors: Burgundy and Navy Blue C lass Motto: You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self here and now, and nothing can stand in your way. 16 CLASS SONG WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN Life, so they say, is but a game—and they let it slip away. Love, like the Autumn sun, should be dying but it’s only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead, they don't see just where we're goin'. And all the secrets in the universe, whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. Dreams, so they say, are for the fools and they let them drift away. Peace, like the silent dove, should be flyin' but it's only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days, we must gather all our courage, sail our ships out on the open sea, cast away our fears and all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. So, you wanna laugh while the laughin' is easy. You wanna cry if it makes it worthwhile. You may never pass this way again. That's why you have to be free. You make life feel like it's more than a friend, like it's the journey, and there's a better end. You may never pass this way again, that's why you have to be free. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. Danny Calverley SUMMARY: Vestaburg's baseball season was a somewhat successful season, highlighted by the Wolverines capturing the Motor Valley Conference Championship with a 3-0 record. The Wolves started the season with an impressive 3-0 mark while committing only one error in the first three games. Then an injury to pitching ace, Rod Marshall, and an illness to MVP, Curt McConnell, decreased the effectiveness of the offense and defense. The pitching of Rich Bigelow and Paul Oliver was strong, but Vestaburg failed to win six out of their next seven games. Due to excessive rain, the Conference schedule was played last, with Vestaburg playing well, and at full strength. The results—a 3-0 record and Conference Champs! 67 TRACK Top: Coach Ron Cain, Jim Camp, Roger Mier, Kevin Stubbs, Dan LeMarble, Rod Marshall, Mark Snyder.
