1964 WOLVERINE Mr. Mrs. Harry Horton We the Annual Staff dedicate the Wolverine 1964 to Mr. Mrs. Harry Horton. This year Mr. Horton is retiring from the School Board after 27 years of service. Mrs. Horton, who reports Vcstaburg news, has done an outstanding job of reporting our School events. 2 JTion.il f that (hi fan books. eriod ktrsA veir jcfena • .ido Wi ttv JffW. i r Vfi jiBcs. Likewise, at the college level, state supported colleges have given many students an opportunity for higher edu- cation and to develop into some of our most able industrial, business, labor and professional leaders. Students of today's jet age, you will no doubt be trained at least three times for a trade or a position of leadership in your life time. Mr. J. D Scoby, Superintendent One must consider these thoughts when some 90 per cent of the research scientists who have lived are still alive today, and about half the research and development money spent in all the history of the United States was spent in the last eight years. The challenges that education can lead students into today is unlimited. Educational accelera- tion is by no means at an end. It is just beginning for any of you who choose to challenge your ability. A successful venture for our undergraduates and to our 1964 graduates. J. D. Scoby, Superintendent 4 Mr. E. J. Barry Principal One day a mother asked me What kind of students succeed in todays world ? I know that there aren't any clear cut answers to this question but this is what I said: Give me a student with energy, one that is restless and not quite satisfied with him- self. Not only must he be sincere in everything he does, but also he should possess a good sense of humor and be well poised. Todays student must find a way to involve people that might help them to achieve their goals. Education depends on many things. Number one on my list is coopera- tion between student, school and family. I have found a short saying that fits my thinking on this important need, it goes like this, Be quick to praise, slow to criticize and you will see how much more cooperation you will get from everyone. Playing the underdog, they put out a good showing and played hard football against schools much larger than themselves. Vestaburg was in fact the first school to score upon Central Montcalm. Playing against schools more our own size, the team came out on top. The entire backfield will be return- ing for this coming season as well as several veteran linemen and we're hoping they'll do better than the credible 4-3-1 record of this year. 48 The Rah Rah Girls Throughout fall and winter, during both football, and basketball, Mrs. Ingalls and her cheerleaders were at every game cheering on those boys in red and white. Through their efforts a keener school spirit was aroused in the pep sessions and at the games. We hope they will continue the fine work this year. LEFT TO RIGHT: Kathy Welch, Jessica Chase, Sara Wilson, Mrs. Ingalls, Barbara Thom, Mildred Tipton. 49 Make that Basket, Raise that Score. Mr. Ingalls, Doug Throop, Odis Brantley, David Hemminger, Monty Wood, Paul Corder, David Lester, Rick Erskin, Ron Robinson, Les Jenkins, Dan Rusnell, Donald Slock, mgr. This year has been a building one for Vestaburg, losing only one of the start- ing five. The boys played hard, the whole game, every game and many were close. To say the least, the team played much better than the 15-1 record showed. This coming year should be much better with 4 returning starters who have a lot of experience on the court together.
