The fatal day arrived, you guessed it “Initiation,” when we were joined into the “higher circle.” We voted our class officers as follows: President- Marilyn Hubbard, Vice-President-Mary Johnson, Secretary- Joan Oswald, Treasurer-Marion Inbody, and Class Sponsor- Mrs. Adelaide Myres. The current song craze was “A Tree In The Meadow. We started our Sophomore year with an attendance of thirty- three. Nine of our classmates had left us by the end of our first year. They were Donald Brown, Jo Ann DooLittle, Helen VanAtta, Marvin Bontrager, Shirley Andrews, Jim Hass, Marion Inbody, and Roy Moody. In losing these, we gained two more: Betty Jean Crittenden and Jack Corke. Our class officers were: President-Wayne Stearns, Vice-President-Darlene Corder, Secretary-Lois Hamlin, Treasurer-Mary Johnson, and Class Sponsor-Mr. Merton Wilson. We began our Junior year with a bang. This year our class numbered twenty-five. We gained four: Elenore Flower, Charles Hindal, Evalene Crittenden, and Charles Hinton. Before the year was over we lost Gordon Whitney, Merlin Welch, Kathleen Keeler, Billy Johnson, Doris Scott, Elenore Flower, and Irene Hansen. Our class officers for this year were: President-Wayne Stearns, Vice-President-Charles Hindal, and later was Phillip Peasley, Secretary-Lois Hamlin, Treasurer-Mary Johnson, and Class Sponsor-Mr. Roger Howard. We put on our play and had a great time doing it. The title was “No Bride For The Groom. The Seniors challenged us to the Annual Junior and Senior Hunt in which we had to pay for the eats because we didn't have the success of finding them. 9 We had a roller skating party, which built our small fund into what we thought was large. We started our last year with twenty and gained one, Patricia Trecy, We lost Ruth Bennett, Charles Hindall, Evalene and Betty Jean Crittenton, and Mary Bontrager. Our class officers for this year were: President-Wayne Stearns, Vice-President-Darlene Corder, Secretary-Marilyn Hubbard, Treasurer-Joan Oswald, Class Sponsor-Mr. Roger Howard, and Co-Sponsor-Mr. Clair Stauffer. The Juniors were unsuccessful in finding us this year during the Junior-Senior Hunt, which mended our wounded feelings from the former year. A complete music program, with band and glee club. We hope this will bring a great credit to good old V. H. S. Our class play, “Henpecked Henry” seemed a huge success, and was loads of fun putting on. Our class colors were selected as Blue and White; Class Flower as the Red Rose; and our Motto as “Finished, Yet Beginning. With this in mind, we go forth into the world. We want to thank our parents, teachers and friends, who have helped us and know if it were not for them we would not be where we are today. FIRST ROW: SECOND ROW: THIRD ROW: Juniors B. Sanders, D. There were twenty-five girls out for basketball, and out of this, thirteen were Freshmen. One of our first happy events was our new suits. As our games went on, we kept losing, usually by a small margin. We finally did win one game, and for the remainder of the season that stands as our only game won. A record of one out of eight games played is not a record of which to be proud. But our team is hoping for better luck next year. Our coach is Mrs. Johnson. Football The Vestaburg High School football team started practice August 30th with thirty-five boys reporting. The first couple of weeks were mostly calisthenics and fundamentals. After learning plays from the single wing and “T formation. The games were: Beal City 13-7, Sand Lake 22-6, Hemlock 19-0, Shepherd 26-7, Edmore 21-6, Sand Lake 12-0, Sheridan 26-7. Football was ably coached by Mr. Keats Wood and Mr. Roger Howard. Basketball The Vestaburg Wolverines of 1951-52 had another poor season. They finished seventh in the MCAA League with a record of one victory against nine defeats. The team scored a total of 615 points for an average of 351 points per game. The team’s free throw average was 35.1 per cent. Cheerleaders FRONT: Nina Stearns, Joan Oswald, Audra Kellicut. BACK: Audrey Glowacki, Wanetah Oswald.
