During the year, nine more Freshies entered our clique, making us a total of forty-six. Their names were Norman Gladding, Junior Poullion, Nina Andrews, Sadie Sue Thomson, Bernard Yanie, Aline Waterworth, Donald Wolfgang, Jesse Waldron and James Green. This year, we had a roller skating party with small success (financially), but, much fun. The current song craze was “Open the Door, Richard”. Also, this was the year our school song was introduced. On February 5, 1947, to be exact. We started our Sophomore year with an attendance of forty-one. Ten of our class members had left us by the end of our first year. They were Junior Crowe, Annabelle Aldred, Geneive Doo-little, Betty Struble, Junior Poullion, Nina Andrews, Sadie Thomson, Aline Waterworth, Donald Wolfgang, and Jesse Waldron. In losing these ten classmates, we gained five more: John Carter, Reginald Nelson, Leon Sanderson, Elwin Washburn and Glenn Welch. Our class officers were President, Arthur Wood; Vice-President, Lillian Foote; Secretary, Leland Oswald; Treasurer, Patty Peasley and Class Sponsor, Mrs. Gertrude Hyde. We had three class parties this year; a hayride in September, a sliding party at Bradley Hill in January and a picnic in May out at Lumberjack Park. This year was the last year in which one of our jolliest teachers was with us. We don't have to tell you his name, because no one who knew him could forget our Principal, Mr. James Aneff. Again, this year, we lost a few more of our classmates....Colleen Throop, Shirley Gorsuch, Marcelene Harrell, Jewell Stroupe, David Bontrager, Elwin Washburn, Bob Scott, Charles Hinton and Reginald Nelson. We started our Junior year with a bang. Each year, feeling a little more important than the year before, we thought we were now really sitting on top of the world. This year, our class numbered thirty at the beginning of the term. We gained two; Hazel and Laurence Chapman, but lost four old friends; Jimmy Green, Alice Miles, Bernard Yanie, and Wayne Young. Later in the year, John Carter, and Cleo Moody left us. Now there were only twenty-eight of us left. Our class officers this year were all boys. It just so happened that the boys ganged up on the outnumbered girls and put in all male officials. They were President, Norman Gladding; Vice-President, Bill Sherman; Secretary, Leland Oswald; Treasurer, Bugs Kellicut. and Class Sponsor, Mr. Keats Wood. The high and mighty Seniors challenged us to the Junior-Senior Hunt in which we had to pay up for the eats by not finding them. We had a “Hard Times party at the schoolhouse in November. Everyone showed up looking like “bums except a few boys who tried to convince us their ordinary clothing was bummy enough. We put on our class play and had a great time doing it. The title was “Young, Willing and Able . The three years rolled by quicker than we expected and we had to run a little to catch up with the fact that at last we were Seniors. Perhaps it swelled our heads a little, but l‘m sure that anyone who has ever been a Senior will understand. And you who are heading our way, well, you just wait and see if you don’t feel different. We started our last year with thirty-one classmates. We had gained three new mem- bers; Shirley Chapman, Robert Franks and Ed Burtch. Our class officers this year were President, Leon Sanderson; Vice-President, Glenn Welch; Secretary, Freda St. Peter; Treasurer, Nancy Lucas; Class Sponsor, Mr. Keats Wood, and Co-Sponsor, Mr. Clair Stauffer. The Juniors were unsuccessful in finding us this year during the Junior-Senior Hunt which mended our wounded feelings from the former year. We were struck by the fact that in November, death claimed one of our oldest friends and classmates, Willis Borton. We were shocked and sobered by it because it happened so sudden and unexpectedly. Our class play “Cornin' Round the Mountain” seemed a huge success, and was loads of fun putting on. Our class colors were selected as maroon and gold; our class flower as the white carnation and our motto as “Success Is A Journey, Not A Destination . And so with this in mind, we go forth into the world. We want to thank our teachers and friends who have helped us along the way and hope the future will bring ample rewards for their efforts. 12
