Juniors The Juniors of ’86 had a busy and exciting year. They were faced with many decisions concerning their future. There were some who attended J.V.S. to learn more in their specialized field. Others chose to stay and continue with their education at V.H.S. Those Juniors planning on attending college were expected to take the PSAT and ACT tests for the first time. The Junior class sold raffle tickets at every home football and basketball game in order to raise money for prom. They also had the job of decorating the hall for prom, a tradition that has been passed down by the seniors. All in all the Juniors had a very fulfilled year that will never be forgotten. Highlights of the season were the overtime victories agaist Indian Lake and West Milton and the big win against previously undefeated Covington 13-3 at Homecoming. The last week of the regular season saw the Tigers wrap up the League Title and a playoff berth by downing the always troublesome Springfield Central Catholic team. This year’s team showed that hard work and dedication can pay off in the end. Also, Coach Roll can be thanked for coaching and helping these young wrestlers along. 140 Jr. High Cross Country This year the Jr. High Cross Country Team consisted of four members. Since five runners are required to qualify as a team, they were unable to receive a team score at their meets. Nevertheless, several successful performances were recorded this year. The SCR Jr. High Champ, Dave Broerman, managed to place first or second in almost every meet. Mike Goubeaux usually placed in the top ten and finished fourth in the SRC. James McClurg and Alan Miller were the only seventh graders; they showed good possibilities for being the nucleus of next year’s team. Jr. High The seventh grade boys basketball team ended their season with a record of five wins and nine losses. The eighth grade team ended up with seven wins and nine losses. Going into four over-times and coming out on top over L.T. Ball had to be the highlight of the season for the eighth graders. 1. Front: Bryce Schaffer. Trent Huff. Lane Knore. This year's council was very energetic and creative in organizing Homecoming, the Thanksgiving assembly, and the Christmas program. Daring to be different, the council sponsored an assembly in which the students created their own music videos. The new endeavor was a complete success and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. Congratulations to the ’85-'86 members for a job Row 1: Teresa Rethman. Julie Dor-sten, Jill Subler. The Cheerleading Association, advised by Mrs. Sandy DeLaet, was very successful in raising the school spirit. The members did this by cheering at football and basketball games, wrestling meets, and pep assemblies. They also sponsored “spirit days,” decorated the school, as well as painted the windows of the uptown businesses. The members also had the responsibility of creating the fall and winter sports programs. Art Club Members of the V.H.S. Art Club visited Chicago taking in the Art Institute, the Sears Tower, and Holy Name Cathedral. During the course of the school year, the art club was visited by two speakers, Mrs. Mary Sue Johns, a jewelry maker and professor at Miami University, and Mrs. Mary Jo Davis, a professional calligrapher. They participated in two money-making projects, school spirit projects, as well as community projects. Row 1: Steve Groff, Bill Wingfield. Brian Voisard. Among the awards received by its members and judging teams were three first place awards, two placings in the top three, two in the top five, three in the top ten, and three in the top 20 amounting to a total of 13 placings ranked superior in the state. These results compare to a list of 23 contests offered by the State Association with competing teams often numbering more than 200 in a single contest. All in all, it was a super year for the Versailles FFA, and with the increasing quality of membership and increased amount of public support, the organization is continuing to work towards more success in the near future. Main Versailles, Ohio 526-3251 A Special Thank You To Jim Wakefield -Am , Vfv f And To The Versailles Policy ¥ The Road Not Taken — Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how ways leads on to way. I doubted if I should even come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. f D CD CD @ CD Who was on the cover of Time magazine July A, 1776? iD 193 fC 7 CD 1 Thomas Jefferson CD Gary Cooper CD Ben Franklin Elmer Fudd L see Mr. Minnich « !
