J 1 Reaching out is not just the big things you do to help someone when he is ill or needs help. Jt is the little everyday things you do all your life. Reaching out starts when vou get up in the morning and lasts all day. Ev-ervtime you make someone feel an emotion, you are reaching out to them bv making them feel a part of life. In the following pictures are some examples of reaching out. In the top left picture Mike is trying to teach a class and in the top right picture Mrs. Newland is helping Janet with one of her layouts. In the middle picture, senior Roberta is reaching out to freshman Regina. And in the bottom picture Karen and Steve cheer Cindy and Kennv on. On the next page, the top picture represents reaching out for world peace. In the middle left picture Roger and his friends are reaching out to find out what’s going on in the world. The bottom left picture shows Judy helping Jim cut his hair; he's too cheap to go to a barber! Imagine how Susie feels in the middle right picture. And finally in the last photo Mr. Clogher and Hruce meditate on their “poker cards. The student contributes to the school whether good or bad. Each strives for a bit of individuality and will set up his own long road toward the future starting with his twelve years of comprehending and learning in school. After these twelve years he must face the decisions shaping tomorrow’s world. This generation of students must be ready to meet these challenges and contribute to our society by reaching out to all other persons and sharing themselves. 8 9 Representatives: 9th—Julie Pitsenbarger Terry Johns 10th— Theresa Eilerman John Swallow Mary Jo Poeppelman Nick Ruchtv Janice Berger Tom Buxton Queen and King Candidates: Janet Poeppelman—Dave Schmitz I lth- 12th— Cindy Ruschau Susie Reiser Karen Monnin Sharon Mangen —John Subler —Steve Schlater —Gary Bev —Robie Arce (not shown) 10 VoU'i A G Chan 115 Brown Sam Craves as Charlie Brown Director—Mr. J. Westfall Ass’t—Jan Cirardin Student Ass’t.—Denise Waggoner From 1942 to 1945 over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, a former military garrison set up as a ghetto. It soon became a station, a stopping-off place, for hundreds of thousands on their way to the gas chambers of Aushwitz. When Terezin was liberated in May, 1945, only about one hundred children were alive to return to what was left to the rest of their lives, their homes and families. The story of those years at Terezin remain in the drawings and poems collected and published in the book, I Never Saw Another Butterfly. It shows the best and the worst a human heart is capable. 18 yA elijLtL r A. U m ju -kZlaasl u.
