DARLENE ZWANZIG Not a cate hath she. F.H.A. 2-3-4. It's a Great Life in Versailles High School. In 1951, ninety-two freshmen came through the doors of learning into V. H.S. We entered the building where we would be surrounded for four short years with an at- mosphere of learning, leading, and loving. After a period of wandering and groping, we finally established ourselves as citizens in the student body of V.H.S. Our activities were not too numerous during our freshmen year. However, Kay Moore was chosen Annual Queen, bringing honor to our class. All the members will remember our Homecoming Float, but not because it won a prize. Other activities in- cluded our school party and concession stand at a ball game. From these activities, we gained experience and knowledge for the next three years. Our sponsors were Mr. William Jobe, Mrs. Sarah Roth, and Mrs. Lucile Weimar. As sophomores, we were upper class- men. We weren't lucky enough to have a Homecoming Queen or Annual Queen, but Dwen Pritchard and Mary Garber made very good candidates. Kay Moore and Georgia Truitt received very good ratings at the district contest in biology. Mary Garber received a good rating in the algebra contest. She also attended the Sophomore Pilgrimage. This was the year we provided the entertainment for the Junior-Senior Ban- quet. The theme of the banquet was Song of the Islands . We had everything, including hula dancers and bathing beauties. Our spon- sors this year were Mrs. Marjorie Hanks and Mrs. Sarah Roth. Our junior year was a big year for our class. Kent Hall was given honorable men- tion on the All-State basketball team. Janice Nelson received a I rating at state contest for her vocal solo. The one-act play, which had only juniors in it got a 'Superior rating at the district Actors' Festival. For her poetry reading, Kay Moore received an Ex- cellent rating at the district contest. Kent Hall was selected to go to Boys' State and Betty Robinson went to Girls' State. Kay Moore was again chosen Annual Queen our junior year. Donna Hutchison was chosen Most Popular Girl. Our biggest project for the year was presenting the Junior-Senior Banquet. The gymnasium was beautifully decorated carrying out the theme, Moon- light and Roses . The background was a brick wall accented with climbing roses and a special attraction was a wishing well. There were also stars and a moon shining down on the garden. Our sponsors were Mrs. Roth and Mrs. Anna M. Kimbrell. Only one more year to go! Now our senior year is going faster than we, as freshmen, could possibly have imagined. We have our class rings, we've ordered our senior pictures, and we have filled our heads with a great deal of know- ledge. We were very happy when Marlene Gunckel was crowned Homecoming Queen by our senior Student Council President, Kent Hall. Donna Hutchison was also chosen Basketball Queen. We would like to thank Mrs. Roth and Mrs. Kimbrell for the assistance they have given us. You, who may be just starting high school, take it from us, It's a Great Life .
