Early in September of 1949, one hundred six eager students enrolled as freshmen in V.H.S. This class, which was to become the Class of ’53, had as its sponsors, Miss Lehman and Mrs. Waid. The next year our number had dropped to eighty, but we worked diligently to produce the entertainment for “Plantation Party”, the junior-senior banquet. It was a huge success, and we, the sophomores, were fortunate to have Mrs. Marriott and Miss Lehman as sponsors. Now we were upper classmen! We had earned money during our three years of high school life to entertain the seniors at a banquet. Our theme, “Hitch Your Wagon to a Star,” was extremely beautiful. We had a starry sky, a moonlit garden,-------and a wonderful time. Finally we were seniors ! It doesn’t seem possible that our high school life is about over. We have looked forward to the junior-senior banquet, baccalaureate, graduation, and many other last minute events. On graduation night, we, the seniors, will walk down to the stage to receive diplomas. Of this group not one will forget the class of ’53; our sponsors, Miss Lehman and Mrs. Marriott; or the wonderful times we have had at V.H.S., our Alma Mater!!!!
