CLASS FLOWER Red Rose CLASS COLOR Red and White CLASS SPONSORS Miss McDonald Mr. Schmoll Senior Class History Here we come! The freshmen of 1948-49- There were 49 of us. This was smaller than most classes that entered high school, but we felt just as big as the others. Mr. Schmoll and Mrs. Sutton were our faithful sponsors. Theyhelpedus to get accustomed to our new exciting high school life. Each class elected a king and queen--ours were Bob Hall and Joan Purdy. At the end of our freshman year, seventeen of our class members left us. As we started in as sophomores we only had 34 class members. This was an important year because we had to provide the entertainment for the Junior-Senior Banquet. The theme of the banquet was Blue Room. Our program consisted of musical numbers--we even had our own combo. The gym was decorated in blue and white. It certainly was a memorable event. The Hawthorne Literary Society chose Gloria Hart as our representative to the Sophomore Pilgrimage at Jefferson City. All the classes elected their queens and cur lucky gal was Norma Walker. As our junior year olled around, we realized that it would take a lot of dil- igent work to give the seniors a banquet not to be forgotten--and, we did! The gym was beautifully decorated in pastel colors, and spring flowers. The theme of the banquet was Southern Plantation Party . The sophomores presented a cute minstrel. This Junior-Senior Banquet was, in our estimation, one of the best ever given in our high school. Lynda Otten was selected by the American Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls' State at Fulton, and Bob Hall was selected to go to Boys' State at Columbia. Now, we are seniors, our class has dropped from 49 students to 29- We have finished 12 long years of school, but now they seem to have slipped by much too fast. It doesn't seem quite possible that it will be our class marching down the aisle to the familiar strains of Pomp and Circumstance , receiving our diplomas, and then stepping out into a new world of opportunity. There will be college for some, various jobs, armed service, etc. , but we know, no matter what future each chooses, that the memory of our dear friends we made and V. H. S. will be with us always. Now we bid you farewell, and all the luck in the world for a wonderful life of happiness and may you all learn to cherish all the memories of events at Dear Ole V. H. S. Sponsored by HART’S A. G.
