eniorri ANN WILLIAMS Q ,R Pep Squad Z, 3, 4, Student Council 1, Glee Club 3 its' MARTHA WORLEY f ' N CAM Jtzibfor In September, 1944, thirty-three pupils enrolled in the eighth grade at Versailles High School. This was a big year for us for we were no longer considered grade schoolers. Our sponsor was Mrs. Elliott. During the year we had a fall party and a spring party. Our play, The First Quarrel, was presented at the sophomore carnival and won third place. Donna Beckner was our carnival queen. We also had a dinner when we finished our unit on manners in English. It was served inthe home economics room and was sucha success that it was set up as an annual affair. When we again entered school in September, 1945, as freshmen, there was an enrollment of eighty-four pupils, the majority of whom were country boys and girls. We were rather proud of our enrollmentwhich made us the largest class in school. Our class officers were: president - - Wm. Ross Hunter, vice-president - - John Gerber, secretary- - Beth Elliott, treasurer-- Jack Stringer. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Elliott and Mr. Vorhis. During the year we had a rummagesale, a luncheon, atrip to the Bagnell Dam,a trip to the state capitol, and a school-end party. Eventually our sophomore year rolled around with an enrollment of eighty pupils. We still were the largest class in school. This was a happy year for us--we were no longer green freshmen , we could choose a wider variety of subjects. Again our sponsors were Mrs. Elliott and Mr. Vorhis. Virginia Lee was elected our queen. During the year we had a fall party, sold pop and candy at basketball games, and entertained at the junior-senior banquet with a gay nineties skit, which was an outstanding success. Again, in September, 1947, we entered school with a large enrollment, but not the larg- est. We were juniors now and felt we were 'Supper-classmen. Our officers for the year were: president-- Janice Spaulding, vice-president-- Wm. McDaniel, secretary - -Beth Elliott, treasurers--Clara Adele Silvey and John Gerber. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Elliott and Mr. Schmoll. During the year we participated in a Christmas pageant and many other activities. We had the traditional junior stand at the basket-ball tournament, and gave the junior-senior banquet. Our theme for the banquet was 'tShowboat Missouri. It was a great success and we were very proud of it. We also decorated the gym for baccalaureate and commencement. In September, 1948, we once again entered the Versailles High School, but this time as mighty seniors. This was a very happy, and yet a sad year for us. At last we had reached that goal for which we had striven - we were seniors.. But fsad thought U we would soon be leaving dear old V. H. S. However, we faced the year with more enthusiasm than ever, as officers were: president--Gail Hughes, vice-president--Virginia Lee, secretary--Audrey Carpenter, treasurers--Dorothy Kauffman and John Gerber, representatives--LloydSouders, Nina Foxworthy, Wm. Ross Hunter. Our sponsors were Mrs. Elliott and Mr. Nelson. 19
