- For the past four years the students of Henry B. Whitehorne High School have attended school with a war raging about them in the outside world. Al- though none of them have seen actual combat, they have made countless sacrifices for themselves and families on the homefront. Many of our boys have left the portals of our school to join the forces of Uncle Sam. These boys and girls are our pride and joy, and they are bring- ing a bit of V.H.S. to every corner of the world. This year the Shadows staff is employing a military theme throughout the yearbook. The cover starts the theme, and the book follows it on through. The staff is proud to have a military theme for the edition but it is their most sincere wish that in the very near future all military ideas will be forgotten.

, DEDICATION It is with the utmost pleasure that the Shadows staff dedicates this twenty-fourth edition of Shadows to Paul W. Goeltz. Doc is celebrating his Silver Anniversary as teacher and athletic coach in Verona High School. During his twenty-five years with us Doc has had the finest reputation on the athletic Held and off. We extend heartiest congratulations and wish that the forthcoming years will bring him honor and prosperity. -
