SCHOOL BOARD The Verona School Board, composed of outstanding members of our community, unselfishly gave their time and effort to benefit our school. They were progressive men, aware of changing times and the mony problems that confront modern youth, They had the responsibilities of the regulation of holidays, financial status of the school district, hiring teachers, and consideration of student prob- lems. Aside from the work in their meetings, they were very busy with extra-curricular activities such as basketball games and dances. OLGA JANKOVICH During Olga's school years she belonged to the Girls' Glee Club and the Y-Teens. She proved herself fast on her feet in basketball. Her nice personality has won her many friends. ln her senior year she took the Cen- eral Course, but went to Pinkerton School for Secretary of Verona Public Schools where both the students and teachers appreciate her helpfulness and pleasant manner. THE STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council is a representative group comprised of members from the 9th, lOth, llth, and l2th grades who were elected to represent their respective classes. The Student Council's main aim was to give the students more voice in the administration of our school. This Student Council followed the fine example set in previous years. They helped to settle vorious dis- putes that arose in the school. The Student Council also tried to make the school year more enjoyable by putting on various assembly programs, operating the concessions at the basketball games, and chartering buses for some of the basketball games. The Council's president, Jim Ireland, under the Council's sponsor, Mr. McMillen, with the help of the other officers, Bernie Wagner, Betty Wilson, and Ronnie Brennan, did a fine job. The Council did many good things and urged anyone who had problems concerning school life to re- port to members of the Council for consideration. The student body appreciated the fine work of our Council. OFFICERS President James Ireland Vice-President Bernie Wagner Secretory Betty Wllson Treasurer Ronald Brermon ja Jtllfif 0 OU! J OU! NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Left to right: L. England, W. Eiler, M, Albrech, B. Wilson. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Through outstanding scholarship, char- acter, leadership and service, we achieved our goal to become members of the Na- tional Honor Society. In order to promote these ideals in our school, a special assembly was held in which pins were presented to each mem- ber, and proper recognition was given to these honor students. If any student has those four qualities and their grades average B or better, he may become a member of this society. We were very proud of our four members this year and we sincerely hope that this organ- ization will grow to be a bigger, better, and more beneficial society. 11:11- 1 , .Ptll Here is one of Mr Anderson S secretaries typina the bulletin I9 M duifv! up file 5Aow Banff :L T-f-e.,,g3y A Seated M Thaner M L Lyter A DeFazuo J Ireland N Morrall W Enlee R Brennan L Eng land M Helsley J Chrrnllo D Ross: M Slstek Stondmg Mr Rockwell C VanTlne F Santuccl C Vlores S Herron J Manos B lsherwood J Kung J Jackson C Cassano M Pnerro C Mft Chell M Mcllveen STAFF CLUB Under the excellent guudance of our new sponsors we the members of the Staff Club published another yearbook of whlch our stu club spends every moment sincerely tryung t make each book one which wall be remembered Although we were late un gettrng started be Cause school was not IH sessnon we selected our theme and made sketches to sunt each club class and organlzatnon Every effort was made to obtaln the best puctures and most lnterestrng wrrte ups Of course durlng all thus fume we were extremely busy tryung to secure new meth ods of earnung money to make our yearbook bet ter In future years Wath such a bug project to plan and execute there was ry luttle :dl time for the members of thus club OFFICERS President Wunona Euler Vlce President James Ireland Edltor Ass t Edltor Art Editor Photography Edutor Sports Editor Ronald Brennan Ronald McDode Jennue Manos Wunona Euler James Ireland Nancy Morrlll if QQ Secretary Loss England IX I I I 20 F I., xp dents and teachers may truly be proud. These people played a very important part in the financial department of the year- book. With courage and determination, these people walked in the snow and rain and went from place to place obtaining advertisements. Without their fine support, our yearbook would not have been possible. So when looking through your yearbook, remember that the sol- icitors played a big part in its production. THE GREMLIN STAFF The Gremlin Staff worked hard all year to put out a good paper. Al- though the paper was new, they did their best to make each issue better. For two years the profits went to the class of '50, but during the next school term the profits will go into a Gremlin fund to help buy supplies for the monthly pa er. Aspinwoll outclassed Verona in the first half, but Verona came back strong the second half when they held Aspinwall scoreless and scored Q touchdown themselves. The second game of the season was with Edgewood. Verona again showed second half superiority, scoring 12 points, and ending in a 12-12 tie. Verona broke into the win column in the third game with a 12-O victory over Washington Township. The first conference game of the season proved very disappointing, for Verona went down to defeat 20-6 in Q hard fought game to a superior Plum eleven. After a defeat the previous week, Ver- pr-9' . They did a fine job. ana outclassed the East Deer-Frazier eleven to the tune of 34-12, Verona proved very lucky in the Robinson Township game with a one point margin of victory, 14-13. After being victorious for two previous weeks, Verona lost to a powerful Springdale team, 18-7. Verona, under the lights for the first time in the season, showed supreme power in downing Sharpsburg, 34-12. Verona came out of the next game very disappointed, for they lost to our traditional ri- vals, Oakmont, under the lights at Penn High. Even though losing by a score of 18-O, Verona showed its usual fighting spirit. Verona fin- ished the season with a 4-4-1 record, but pros- pects for next year are promising. 3, J-'LJHJ Section 22 Champs Sitting: Managers, W, Wetmore, J. lntorre, L. The team did much better than expected, since it had only two holdovers from last years team. ln winning the section cham- pionship, Verona won l3 games and lost l, the lone section loss was to Edgewood on our court. The first two tournament games with Arnold and Shannock Valley at Wilkinsburg were won hand- ily by Verona. The third game at Dormont with Avalon, who had defeated Verona earlier in on exhibition game, proved to be the fatal game. ln this game the whole team had a bad night, and Avalon capitalized on our mistakes. Including tournament games the season record was l9 wins and 4 losses? The Junior Varsity had a fair record, winning l2 and losing 8, and showed promise for the next season. Congratulations are due both teams for a very good basketball season. rey, R. Melle, J. Ireland, P. Manganara, B. lsherwocd, L. Hall, Coach Testa. Go Teddy Boy! FT1Ol'9. We really thought that we were important, but to our surprise our upper classmates soon did away with that feeling. During that year we had to work very hard in our studies. How- ever. we did have a very nice class party in the spring. SOPHOMORES As soon as school started, we settled down to thinking of ways to make money for the Senior Prom which would be coming up the next year. After much planning and hard work, we had alVariety Show, This proved to be very successful, and it helped us finan- cially also. Then, to top it all, we had a successful class party. JUNIORS This was our best and most important year of all. In the beginning, we had financial worries over the Junior-Senior Prom. Much to our surprise, our class play, Professor. How Could You? , turned out to be a great success and helped us out of a tough spot. After this we went on with our plans and had a wonderful prom. When the end of the term rolled around, we went to North Park where we had a very enjoyable picnic. SENIORS Now we have reached the last mile of that way. Yes, after twelve years, we are truly sorry to leave our Alma Mater for we now realize that many of our most pleasant ex- periences were shared there. One of these took place on the evening of May 25, l95l, the night of the Junior-Senior Prom. The gym was decorated beautifully in maroon and white, and there was a beautiful array of gowns and suits, The music was grand and everyone had a very lovely time. Every- one will remember the Prom of l95l. We are now at the closing chapter, We shall never forget you and hope that you won't forget us.
