Loggers Make State Playoffs The year started with high expectations and serious concern about the strength of our league. We knew that Gaston, Warrenton, Knappa and Portland Christian were all going to be very strong. With this in mind, we set our goal to be league champion, and to get to play Regis. We also wanted to prove that the future of the 76 season was a mental problem that we could overcome. We worked very hard on conditioning, helping each other and self-motivation. We developed a team concept. We were also fortunate to have Kevin Murray and Drew Tracy join our team and make excellent contributions. We placed two players on the all-State team, Scott Johnston and Ken Smith; one second all-State, Dean Bernardi. We will remember our team as one of setting high goals and reaching them. It was the best ever for a Vernonia football team. One of our proudest accomplishments was to play the league schedule with only two touchdowns being scored against us. In 12 catagories of statistics the Loggers lead the league in 7; which speaks very well for us, especially when one views the strength of our league. 1.
