We also wish to express the deep appreciation, for Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Westerberg, that is felt throughout the entire student body and administration. Without them our school will never be quite the same again. Ann shows that her job is not as hard as it appears to be. Ellen files all of the day’s detention slips. 8 FACULTY Top: Mrs. Schorzman samples a Home Ec Linda Minor, ’’Teacher of the Year”. 1 meal. Bottom: The coaches discuss the coming track meet. Future Teachers of America is an organization for persons interested in the field of education. FTA is responsible for a few awards that were given, including the ’Teacher of the Year’ award. The teacher that is chosen should take their own time in and out of class to help students with any problems that they may have. The teacher has to be good at what they do, but most of all, be very understanding. This year we chose Mrs. Linda Minor for our 'Teacher of the Year’. FTA gave two special awards this year.. The first went to Ellen Hanson Meyer since she was leaving VHS. The last award went to Ann Westerberg who was retiring after 23 years of service at VHS. FTA discuss what they need to do to make more money. 38 Mr. Boyle and Mary Etheridge having fun at a meeting. FTA thanks Mr. Chris Boyle for putting up with them during a long year. G.n.n. Girl’s Athletic Association consisted of a small but ambitious group of girls and their advisor, Mrs. Marsha Hager. Cupcake sales accounted for a large part of the group's treasury. But their biggest money making project was the annual Homecoming dance after the game. G.A.A. initiated a new project this year. It was a noon freethrow contest. The girls hope that this contest will become an annual spring project. The play that was performed by the Student Council was 'The Night Before Christmas. As the year came to an end, and new officers were chosen, the officers and members of the 1975-76 Student Council looked back at a very enjoyable and profitable year of Student Government. They took first place in Northwest A League play, and were undefeated in league play. One of the reasons the Logger team went so far was because of the outstanding individual efforts of some of the team members. There were eight boys on the team that made the first team-Ed Buckner, Brad Bellingham, Kris Crowston, Rick Johnson, and Jerry Rumboltz. The other three were given honorable mention. They were Randy Ellson, Terry Ellson, and Mike Sutherlin. This year, four players were named all-state. Ed Buckner and Kris Crowston were named to the first team. Brad Bellingham to the third, and Jerry Rumboltz was given honorable mention. The end of the football season came with the state quarter-finals. This year in Varsity Basketball play, the Loggers had a rough season, totalling but 7 wins while losing 14. The Loggers losses came at the hands of AA Foes. The Senior dominated loggers played well on occasions but lacked consistency in losing several close games. Team morale remained high even after the Loggers had lost their opportunity for STATE, and proved it by winning their last 3 games to tie Warrenton for second place in Northwest play. Scott Johnston led the team in scoring, both in total points and percentage, for the outstanding player. Dave Isaacson was a close second in shooting percentage, with Duane Davis capturing the rebounds. Kenny Smith and Rob Smith rounded out the starting five. Coach Terry Nimz began the season not knowing much about the program but quickly got into the feel of things. Looking back at the season, the wrestlers had a lot of fun and should become stronger in the years to come. The Team won the Mount Hood Invitational, the Fern Hill Invitational and repeated as League and District champions for the second straight year. The 1976 team was characterized by no real stars but rather a good group of solid performers who scored well in almost every meet and won on the basis of overall team effort. The team was led by four seniors whom we will miss very much. These include Kris Crowston (League and District shot putt champion), and hurdlers Randy Hansen and Randy Parrow (League and District high hurdler champion), and Brad Bellingham (member of League and District 440-run champions). The rest of the team was a good nucleus of junior members and an outstanding group of sophomores who led the team in scoring for the year. If the younger members of the squad continue to develop as they have this year we think we will be even stronger next year and should repeat as League and District champions for year number three.
