Portland, Oregon May 16, 1968 Mr. Eugene Dove, Principal Vernonia Union High School Vernonia, Oregon Dear Mr. Dove: The Millis and Cantwell Hubbie Dubbie Bubble Gum Company is presenting a special broadcast to bring you news of Vernonia High School class of 1958. Tune in to Channel 17 at 2 a. m. on June 1, and the events and activities of this great and superior class will be revealed to you. Sincerely yours, MILLIS AND CANTWELL BUBBLE GUM COMPANY CHANNEL: Date: Hour: Time Limit: 17 June 1, 1968 2 a. m. 30 minutes The Millis and Cantwell Hubbie Dubbie Gum Company presents a review of the V. H. S. class of '58. Ten years have gone by now since the night of graduation. May 23, 1958, and we hear that now Wayne Shafer is a General in the Air Force of Germany. Why Germany we do not know, but I bet he is enjoying himself with all the frauleins. For, as you remember, Wayne was the one that had those big brown flirting eyes. Glen Siedelman is now doing the commercial on the really big show, Mickey Club. He advertises Ritzy Rhine soap, (so lovely for your hands) 71 There is a new nightclub opening this evening starring the Five Kewpie Dolls who are none other than five of the glamour girls in the class of '58. They are as follows: Sugar Cube—Carol Anderson: Tootsie—Nancy Lloyd; Baby Doll—Darlene Bernardi; Cotton Candy— Nina Sampson; Fluffy—Penny Hays. Our ex-student body president, Don Tunnell, turned out to be a big time operator; he operates all the ping pong tables on the west coast. Janice Pearson and Joyce Sullivan after all their noons of ping pong practicing have finally won championship on the double tournament of the West Coast, Congratulations girls. Jerry Dinger is playing the leading role in Leave It to Beaver on T. V. and in his spare time he sits. Garry Strong has become a great poet, and is well known for that lovely verse, Oh, darling you look so great; Put a mask on and We'll stay out late, which always brings a tear drop to each and every eye lid. Julia Waite is living in Montana and is a owner of one of the largest ranches in the United States. Jerry Buckner is employed as a foreman on the ranch and we hear she really orders him around. My what a great life. Guess who is now starring as Wyatt Earp? No one else but the great cowboy himself, Larry Akers. I wonder what poor Earp is doing now since Larry took his job away. Jimmy Dever is now the Sheriff of Birkenfield and his Deputy Sheriff is Dave Siebel. I hear they really shoot it up out there. Lee Allen is now manager of the Vernonia Pool Hall. I hear he is rolling in the money. His main customer is the card shark himself, Larry Garlock. A sailor popped up and swept Sherry Lindsley off her ship. They eloped and are now living in Seaside raising little waves . Jim Lamb is providing the roses for this year's Rose Festival. Jim has one of the largest rose nurserys in the block. Dane Brady and Judy Fetherston will be starring at the Hottsie Totsie Night Club this evening. Dane will be doing his one and only great talent, blasting on his trumpet; and Judy will be singing her great record hit for this year, Blue Bells in the Meadow . Allen York, who has always favored Purple People Eaters, is now running a cafe exclusively for purple people. His head cook is Paul Weidman, who always wanted to work in a grocery store but didn't quite make it. Anyway, he's about as close as he can get to good smelly groceries. One of his part time waitresses, who also owns the theater across the street, is none other than our classmate, Mary Weaver. Carol Allen is now over in Hawaii with her husband, Bob, who is in the service. They have decided to live in Hawaii permanently. A group of the boys in the class of '58 have organized a big league baseball team called The Batty Batters . The head coach is Richard Haverland; the bat boy is Jack Howard; and their permanent umpire is Marion Knoll. Donna Meyer is now happily married and is living in Africa with her husband who owns a banana plantation. One of the students of '58 has earned enough money to start a womens' university called Mills University. Of course this student is Helen Mills. Carolyn Heath, after refusing many prospective happy paths of life, is now living in blissful seclusion in the Swiss Alps charming the bashful hermit she married. He is a professional butter churner. This brings to a close our 30 minute broadcast of outstanding personalities in the news. 72 Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of Vernonia Union High School, being of sound mind and body, do hereby establish this, our last will and testament.
