CLASS PROPHECY It is May 25, 1978. Our annual class reunion is to be held today. The first to arrive is LeRoy Long and his wife, Barbara. LeRoy is the world's champion meat cutter, and he has only three fingers to prove it. Next to come flying in is Duane Smith. He and Rae Anne have just had another fight and he has locked her in the bathroom and come over anyway. You wouldn't recognize Smitty nowg he is a hair stylest for men and thinks straight hair is very becoming. Soon we hear the squeal of tires, the grind of brakes, and a loud bang. As the car comes to a skidding halt, we see Cathy Nagy jump out over the top fshe's driving a convertible, naturallyj. Cathy has become the first woman ever to win the lndianapolis 500. When the other contestants heard she had been entered, they all dropped out in fear for their lives. Rae Heberling has become quite wealthy in the last few years. She is connected with the Department of Agriculture. Psychologists all over the world are watching her experiment with pigsg she has found a way to make perfect ladies and gentlemen of them. Margaret Miller is the wealthiest woman on the New York Stock Exchange, She resides at her old home while waiting for things to cool down between deals. David Frew advises the Democratic National Committee on For- eign Affairs. For a hobby he restores '57 Pontiacs. Ruth Fenton is the head librarian of the Library of Congress. Her favorite pastime is reading comic books. Bill Shafer is the president of the National Soda Jerks Association. He is raising twelve little jerks. fSays that they're cheaper by the dozen. Lelyn Smith is a cough drop taster for a well known cough drop company. Miles Wells and Walter Bloom own a game preserve, and will get you all the fresh game you want. Bob Rodgers is now a four star general in the National Guard and is due for a promotion in another week. Ron Wolford owns a chain of drug- storesg he also farms as a hobby. He is going to buy Vernon School and convert it into the only barn in the world with elevators. Kathryn Bradley shows up driving an M. P. 's jeep. Her husband is on K. P. duty and couldn't come. She started to teach at military school, but when Mr. Gelsomino sent his Prodigal son to her, it was too much and she eloped with a P. F. C. As the afternoon ends, we turn away full of good food and go home, remembering all the good times we had at Vernon twenty years ago. O ,I , Q9 I. l L13
