Through the air comes a peeling laugh which I recognize as belonging to Mrs. Al Martin, the former Carole Holler. Carole has received her R. N. QRegistered Nursej degree and now knows what to do in case someone faints. Here comes Nancy Bloss, the famous golf star. Nancy tells me she has won the top award in the U. S. Nancy also informs me that Mary Bradley is now secretary to Mr. Wasik at Vernon Hi and Margaret Martin has taken over the Home Economics department. Well, if it isn't Harry, the great African hunter! Harry has had some real experiences in Africa and is giving his old classmates a elephant tusk. Harry tells me that Leroy Hightree is living up to his name, a lumberjack--climbing Redwoods in California, Who's that with her arm bandaged? Oh, it's Mary Miller. Mary now has a horse ranch in Wyoming. She tells me that she was thrown by a bronco. Mary thinks horses are more human than people. Say, look at that snappy black and yellow Ford. Dick calls this his Bumblebee . He is president of the big Ford Motors Factory in Burghill, Ohio. Dr. Charles Blair and his pretty wife, Bonnie, just drove up. In case you didn't know Chuck is now a famous foot doctor, --free removal of ingrown toenails to all his old classmates. I just had a chat with Juanita Fenton. Chat did Isay, I could hardly get away. Although you won't believe it, Juanita has become the town gossiper and has her own Gossip Column in the Warren Tribune. Juanita told me Adaline has married a farmer and can't come today because she is helping her husband put up their first crop of clover, Norma now owns and operates a Pawn Shop in Kinsman. She made a million when she pawned all her rings. Lawrence Osborn, the brave one, tells me he is washing windows in the Empire State Building and his next job is on the Secretariate Building in New York. Janie is settled down with a Sunday School class and no longer has her head in the clouds, although she is thrilled at the sight of a plane and her heart beats fast at the sound of a silver bird. Well it's about time for dinner and who should come driving up in his 51' Ford, but Farmer l-lipkins-- late as usual, Jim is still pinching the pennies. We're all glad that Bishop Percy Bysshe Jones could take time from his busy day to join us. Here comes Allen with a swollen thumbg still hitting the wrong nail on the head. Allen is now building modern homes. Bob Braden has been promoted from a gardener in the small town of Burghill to the White House in Washington, D. C. Bertha flew in last night in her private jet from the big city of Chicago where she is a Metroplitan Opera singer. Jacqueline Englebaugh is working for a French dress shoppe in New York and can now afford to import all her clothes from Paris, France. Some are really doozies ! !! Dinner is over and we spend the afternoon getting reacquainted. Things have certainly changed since we graduated in 1956. Janie Scott CLASS SONG The end of twelve years of study nears, That leaves us with memories true Of joy and sadness brought to mind Of the Vernon High we once knew. Refrain For old times sake, my friend, For old times sakeg we'll always gather Up our memories for old times sake, Should Vernon High never be forgot, And memories brought to mind? Should Vernon High never be forgot, And the joys that we've left behind? We know not where our paths will lead, Nor what the future holds, But the great God who is over all Will each day to us unfold. Mary Miller CLASS HI TORY As we look into our crystal ball, there comes to us a voice out of the past. It speaks to us about one early September morning in 1944 when fourteen of the orginal members were present. They are Chuck Blair, Nancy Bloss, Mary Bradley, Dick Brown, Juanita Fenton, Leroy Hightree, James Hipkins, Carole Holler, Bill Jones, Mary Miller, Lawrence Osborn, Bertha Rice, Jane Scott, and Norma Stainfield. Our first grade teacher was Mrs. Karr. She taught us the fundamentals of the 3 R's. We made it . We 'continued on in the second grade with a new teacher, Mrs. Hanawalt. Mrs. Jennings, our third grade teacher, introduced two new students Adaline Oakes and Jacqueline Engle- baugh. On our journey to the fourth grade we added three more permanent membersg Bob Braden, Allen Smith, and Harry Samuels. During our fourth grade Mrs. Queale helped us present our first puppet show. Pretty good! we might say. Mrs. Wall, having returned from Arizona, became our fifth grade teacher. Mrs. Seaholm prepared us for our journey into Junior High. Bonnie Gregory Joined us there to make a grand total of twenty. And now came the big moment of our life when we were at last Seventh graders. We had some trouble getting used to changing classes, but Mr. Schettino, our home room teacher, helped us with that. Mr. Delpero was our Eighth grade home room teacher. At last we were proud Freshmen! Our initiation was a night we will never forget. The Sophomores made us dress up that day and then they initiated us that night and also served a lunch. Our class advisor was Mr. Rechedy. Then we were Sophomores and received the privilege of initiating the Freshmen. Again our class advisor was Mr. Rechedy. We ordered our class rings and got them at the end of our Sophomore year. In our Junior year we added one more member to our class, Margaret Martin. Our class advisor was Mrs. Heberling. We sold ice cream and stationery to earn money, and then held the Junior-Senior prom at Squaw Creek Country Club. We also took a trip to Washington D. C. We presented our first play Cupid in Pigtails' And now we have reached the highest point in school. We now have a grand total of twenty-one. Under leadership of Mrs. Glowe, our class advisor, we made our Yearbook. It is now the end of our Senior year and you will hear of us in the coming years as we go through history.
