SkeucHOti We feel deeply honored to be the first class to complete its entire senior year in the new school. To us the school will always bring back fond memories of our aims and achievements, the friendships we have made, and the many good times. Now as we embark on various careers we will cherish these happy memories and hope that those who follow us will have as many happy memories. We shall never forget our high school years. 2 fattent PAGE ADMINISTRATION .................................... 7 SENIORS ............................,........... 15 UNDERCLASSMEN ................................. 43 SPORTS ...................................... 55 ACTIVITIES ................................. 69 ELEMENTARY ................................. 8 7 ADVERTISING .............................107 3 'DecUcati K Although we are seniors preparing to embark on various careers, we realize that we are still young in experience. The anticipations of working in a new building have become a reality. Teachers and pupils alike have adjusted to the new environment. The educational process has proceeded smoothly in our pleasant academic surroundings. The Class of 1956 enters adult life from a school building and curriculum designed to give each member every opportunity to equip himself with the necessary knowledge, according to his ability, to live successfully in an adult world. How competently the task of education has been fulfilled must await the test of time. The Community, the Board of Education and the professional staff extend to the Class of 1956 their sincere wishes for years of happiness. You are now ready to prove yourselves in our highly competitive society. William T. Thomson Superintendent Mr. William T. Thomson PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE We extend our most sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1956. This particular class has been a very aggres- sive and dynamic one over the years. It has es- tablished a record of accomplishment and achievement in both the scholastic and extra- curricular fields that will stand as a challenge for future classes to meet. We feel certain that we shall see and hear more about the splendid progress and achievements of many individual members of this class in the years to come. This has been our first full year of operation in our new building and in spite of the fact that we seem to be busier than ever things seem to have been running smoothly. We fully realize that such a large organization could not func- tion properly without the wholehearted co-oper- ation of students, teachers, secretaries, custodi- ans, and bus drivers. For this we are most grate- ful and offer our sincere thanks. John B. Pilette Principal 9 John B. Pilette Wilbur Hoyt, Vice Principal VICE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE We have finished our formal school re- lationships with each other. We then began to think of ourselves as one class and elected Mildred Miller as our president. Nothing much was done our freshman year in the way of money-making projects, but we do owe a round of thanks to our advisors, Mr. Jenkins, Mrs. Wellman, Mrs. Pettigrew, and Mr. Clark, for guiding us through that first year. The next year we were back again, this time as seasoned sophomores. We had a combined meeting early in the school year; and with Mrs. Wellman, Miss Don- zella, Miss Davies, Mrs. Snyder, and Mr. Clark there to keep things under control, we elected officers. Those chosen to lead the way for us were: Bruce Lanz, president; Bob Tate, vice-president; Pete Hepworth, treasurer; and Mildred Miller, secretary. That year the balance in our treasury began to rise with the sale of V.V.S. pencils and a square dance in the spring. In 1954 our junior year had finally arrived, and with it came lots of work for this was the year of the Prom and the Junior Plays. Early in the year we re- elected Bruce, Pete, and Millie as president, treasurer, and secretary respectively. We sold everything this year in order to fatten our treasury. One of the big days of this year was the arrival of our class rings on March 24. The last weekend of April saw the production of our plays under the direction of Mrs. Bostleman. They were Miss Personality Plus,’’ Mind Over Matter,” and The Valiant.” Time then rolled around to June 3, the night of the Prom, Over the Rainbow.” We even made money besides having a good time. It still amazes me that Mr. Simmons, Mr. Teeter, Mrs. Pickett, and Mrs. Snyder lived through it; but we are all glad they did for what would we do without them. Our senior year finally arrived and the first thing we did was to elect our officers. They were Bruce Lanz, our president for the third year; Roland Grimm, vice-president; Sue Law, secretary; and the one who we really kept busy, Eddie Warburton, treasurer. This was the first year we were together all year and our advisors were Mr. Simmons, Mr. Lesniowski, and Mrs. Wellman. We sold maga- zines, pencils, paper, book covers, light bulbs, stationery, candy, and refreshments at the football games to make money. We earned more money from the dances we put on. One of our biggest efforts this year was the production of the senior play, Four Daughters,” which Mr. Lesniowski and Mrs. Lawless directed. As this book went to press we were anxiously looking forward to our senior trip, graduation, and the Senior dinner dance. 32 (?UsA TOM I, BOB ARNOTT, bequeath to Gary Dunne, my car. And I mean got under way—we had a rehearsal every day and two on Friday. Mr. Lesniowski and Mrs. Lawless, our direc- tors, patiently worked with us till we understood each of our parts and the play as a whole. We got our lectures, but we found ways to break the strain of these moments. For instance, one night we taped one of Mr. Lesniowski’s speeches and played it back to him. As November 18 and 19 drew closer we really pitched in and made good use of all our re- hearsal time. We even ended up painting the sets one day. You can see we were determined to present the play. Then those two days arrived, the curtain went up and the show was on. When the curtain fell Saturday night we had to let off steam. Did someone ask how? To find out just ask Mr. Les- niowski and Mr. Simmons, who got covered with make-up and cornstarch. That’s one night they won’t forget for sometime. From all aspects, the play was a success. Everyone connected with the presentation had an unforgettable time and the senior class fattened their treasury. 40 JUNIOR PROM Not many of the Class of ’56 will for- get June 3, 1955—the evening of our Junior Prom. The decorations consisted of a rainbow, a pot of gold and mobiles. The student body elected Arlene Sim- mons and George Hepworth for the royal honors. This shall be a long remembered event as it was the first prom to be held in the new school. JUNIOR PLAY In March of 1955, the Class of ’56 pre- sented three one-act plays. Mrs. Bostle- man directed the cast in the two per- formances. The plays were Miss Person- ality Plus,” a comedy; Mind Over Matter,” a farce, and The Valiant,” a drama. 41 t956 (?t€u 'PiofiAecy Dum, Da, Dum, Dum! This is the rainbow. My name’s Bow. I’m a cop. The time is 2:22 and Sgt. Bob Arnott just handed me a report on some gold lacquer that has been stolen on Cloud 2. Charlie Carver, head coin sprayer, just turned in the alarm. Agalice Havener and Marilyn Mar- shall were busy spraying coins, when the culprit made off with the bottles of lacquer. They couldn’t make a positive identification, but it looked like an old fashioned robot. We’ll get right on it Bow, send our best men right out,” shouted Captain John Filey from the next room. O.K., get Francis Peploski, Bill Quick, Jim Janes, Elaine Kahn, and Bill Condon right out to the pot. I’ll get over as soon as I can, with Doc. George; there may be some cut fingers from glass splinters when the alarm was turned in. I’m hungry, let’s get something to eat on the way over. We can stop at the Wizard’s Palace, for some of Roland Grimm’s wonderful canned spaghetti or quick-frozen pizza.” The Palace was filled with likely looking suspects. In a corner was the Golden Gloves Champ of I960, Rodney Zajac. The owner of the goose that laid the golden egg, Stanley Steve, the president of Golden Glimmer Inc., David Det- rich, and Norman Haight, golden voiced celes- tial orator came in. The head waiter, Bob Krone, found them a table in the front near Claude Hitchings and Donna Rosa, who are waltzing to the music of Frank Reaves and his Ozland Five: Fred Maciag, Ralph Sayles, Dave LaLonde, Barry Bolton, and Bruce Lanz who were playing that old refrain, Beer, Beer for Old VVS.” Their vocalist, Paul Moyer, just left them for a job as ballet dancer in Bernie Maciag’s Palace. Carol Lince, bartender at Wizard’s, just nodded to Viola Sharp to take her place behind the bar, while she slipped out the side door. We sent Dick Reid to trail her, but she lost him at Bob Tate’s Emerald Casino. Tate called us once, when Jeannine Bartell walked in and broke the bank. She accused Janet Biggar of cheating her at cards and a fight broke out, in which Eleanor Dalkiewicz and Sandy Dewan, sight-seers on a trip around the Solar System, were trapped in an oversized display bottle of Sue Hedderich’s Potent Potable Polentable’s Pot-Ale.” While rushing over we were delayed by Sue Law, Kathy Kitchen, Kay Smith and Luch Pawlikowski, who were holding up traffic with a pair of suspenders. When we finally arrived, our first duty was to rescue Pat Lohr from a chandelier, where she was hiding from Elayne Renwick. Bill Bellows stood on Jim Evan’s shoulders to get her down and then we proceeded to the scene of the theft. Near the stop light at Humbug and Rush Through, we stopped to get an apple from Pete Hepworth and Jim Nazel’s used-vegetable and fruit stand. Next door, at the Lavendar Theater, Eddie Warburton’s Whistling Wagettes were opening, starring Cindy Barnes, Margie Grems, Sally Putaski, Priscilla Pawlicki, Sharon Mallery and Edith Seybold. Sandra Janes, Jane Krawiec and Joan Maxwell were pacing the street, ad- vertising Grandmother (Iris) Pulkowski’s baked corned beef and cabbage. When we finally reached the Pot, inspectors Arlene Simmons, Thelma Wenham, Mary Louise Jacobs and Laura Seifert were already there, and Nancy Spink, Mary Masner and Jackie Staple were trailing a trail of gold lacquer which led them to Nancy Witchley and Delma Fox. Gayl Kelts was busy interviewing everyone, the Rain- bow Views. Meanwhile, back in the press room, Peter Curtis, Terry Hartman, John Kaun and Peter Ferris were playing with paper airplanes. We just received a call from Merle Nell and Bob Smith back at headquarters that Barbara Black has been bitten by Andrea Sprague’s in- visible friend, Shnopit, and she is calling in her interplanetary lawyer, Mildred Miller. Bob Reeves and Helena Durant have reported seeing a robot near the glue factory run by Carol Rider, Marlene Nazel and Barbara Sprinkle. Dorothy Lent, astride Thelma Kobler’s shoulders, gal- loped to the scene and was hot on the trail of the suspected robot. They were joined by Donna Hartson’s Coon dogs and they all closed in on the robot. As they dragged it to the ground, a shriek was heard from Anne Gauthier, who had tumbled from the roof of the Cowardly Lion Cafe, where she had run trying desperately to get a trick shot of the capture. When the robot was disarmed and deprived of gold lacquer, we found it wasn’t a real robot at all, but Mary Lou Vaughn and Heather Herrington. They were taken to headquarters in the paddy wagon, by Joan Gou- chie and Barbara Reed. After the case was com- pleted, I stopped off at Jean Hennessy’s rehabil- itation center where Carol Fuller and Ruth Fis- cher were serving their internship. As Cloud 2 rises slowly up in the atmos- phere, we leave the class of ’56 going about their daily routine. 42 hitlds . CloMtncn fcauvi O icen Left to Right: J. Sieniecki, Treasurer E.
