JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL SQUAD-Back row: Miner fmanagerl, Denker, Griffith, Lester, Wallace, Zinn, Mr. Lucy Ccoachl. Front row: DuBois, Hickcox, Dorman fcaptainl, Hope, Gillette, Chase. J. V. BASKETBALL With returning lettermen Hickcox, Chase, and Zinn, former third team players Gillette, Hope, Partel, and Lester, and newcomers DuBois and Dorman, the ,l.V.'s got off to a fast start. They defeated the visiting Cushing J.V.,s, 45-27. The team then lost to a good Mount Hermon Club and to a big, experienced Bellows Falls team. Joumeying to Meriden, the ,l.V.'s beat the Kimball Union junior team with the help of high-scoring freshman Wes DuBois. Next they lost to Mount Hermon but beat Leand and Gray, K.U.A., and Cushing, with Captain Gay Dorman and Wes Dubois leading the scoring. After a loss in double overtime to Leland and Gray, the J.V.'s won four games, defeating Mount Hermon twice, Deerfield once, and Bellows Falls once. Consistent high scoring and good playing were evident on the part of Captain Gay Dorman, Wes DuBois, Fred Gillette, Woody Hickcox, center John Hope, Bill Denker, and Greg Chase. Mr. Lucy did his usual fine job of coaching the J.V.,s. J.V. , fit Q ff-All THIRD TEAM BASKETBALL SQUAD--Back row: Matheson, J. Steele, Eno, P. Mitchell, D. Hickcox. Middle row: C. Steele fmanagerl, Talbot, Noyes, M. Brown, Tarshis, Mr. Van Order fcoach.J Front row: Gleason, Geiger, Angell fcaptainl, Hubert, Steinhoff. THIRD BASKETBALL The Third Team had a good season this year, despite the fact that Coach Van Order had had very little experience with basketball and consequently had to learn with the team. The team finished with a record of 4 wins, 1 loss. The Third Team is made up of those boys who do not have the experience and height necessary to make the l.V.,s, augmented by those boys who wish to play more in competition than would be possible if they were on the second or third string of the l.V.7s. The first two games of the season, with Springfield, were won easily after slow starts. After defeating K.U.A., the team lost to Bellows Falls and then beat K.U.A. again. A large part of the teamls success can be accounted for by George Steinhoffls height and defensive ability, Captain Brian Angell's spirit and determination, Don Hubert's aggressiveness, and Marshall Glea- sons' shooting ability, plus the talents of Tom Talbot and Peter Geiger.
