Although the material, the effort, the team ended the season with a 2-4 The season started off fast with in which V.A. finally triumphed, 8-0. Finally, though coaches Castagner and J.V. FUOTBALL and the team spirit of the Junior Varsity football squad were each quite goof record. The score sheet is not at all indicative of the team's ability. an impressive 12-6 win over K.U.A. and a hard-fought 'fame with Brattlebor FJ 23 ln the next three games, the opponents were simply too strong for the J.V.' Van Urder had the team ready for a repeat performance of the first ball garr of the season, Kimball Unionis fast start combined with some bad breaks resulted in a heartbreaking 6-0 defeat. The first team was composed of Gleason, Ashworth, Cray, Minich, Donaldson, Compson, and Partel on the lint with Mason, Gillette, Dunn, and Galacar in the backfield. Standouts on defense were Stanley, Dunn, Hope, Ashwortl and Calder, while Bill Mason did an outstanding job as offensive quarterback. Vermont Vermont Vermont Vermontm.. This year the cros the squad was broken CROSS COUNTRY 5 Country Squad found itself in the enviable position of having too many aspirants. Therefor up into a varsity team and a J.V. QYOUP- Under the spirited coaching of Mr, Black and Mr, Cintas, the varsity cross country team had a fine seasc with six wins and two losses. Hard work and superior ai3iiitY Paid Oii HS Mike Gallagher- Captain GHY DOTITI3 Don Clark, Pete Allen, Mark Lgonardi, and Rick Cooper racked up fast runs and solid wins. Mike Gallagher, form Rutland High School star, set and broke records on nearly CVCFY COUTSC OVCT Wi1iCi1 he fail- The season opened with 3 meet against an always strong Rutland team. After losing this race, 31-24, the V.. runners bounced back with a win over a good Keene squad, 26-30. Ti1iS SCOIC WHS TCPC-HlCCl in thc I1GXi meet Wi Putney. ln the following week, the harriers returned to Rutland and lost a Close one, 29-26, although Gallagher f a course record there with a time of 12:34. Brattleboro came course record with a t up to V.A. for the next race and was solidly routed, 21-39, as Mike Gallagher broke the V. ime of 11:59. The Academy runners then returned to Brattleboro and, racing on a rain-soak course, won by the score of 26-33. The last two meets of the season were run over a new, longer V.A. course. T Vermont runners beat the Mount Hermon J.V.'s, 20-37, and then overwhelmed Putney by a score of 17-41. The Junior Varsity squad also had a winning season. Composed of A. Mitchell, Noonan, Brodhead, Denker, a Hubert, it won over Keene, Brattleboro, and Putney, and tied Springfield. Next yearis cross Don Clark, Angell, Br country team will be built around a nucleus consisting of Captain-elect Rick Cooper, fleet-foot odhead, Dorman, and Alan Mitchell.
