Among these 36, there are seven lettermen returning from last year's Tri-State Conference Champions. Warren Harris and Elwood Macy in the hurdles, Art Nissen and Stanley Jensen in the quarter mile, Kenneth Domina in the half mile, Art Erickson in the mile run, and Jack De Vany in the dashes, carry the Tanager hopes for the six meets scheduled. B A S K E T B A L L Starting the season with four lettermen returning, prospects were bright for a good season, but misfortune struck at midseason and the Tanagers won but six of fifteen contests. A victory over Beresford 28-I9 and South Soo 46-19, and a defeat to the Yankton Bucks 27-17, showed on the Tanager slate before the holidays Squeezing by a tough Le Mars team 26-25, the locals met defeat at Sioux City 38-27 to Leeds. Victories over Elk Point 30-22 and Hawarden 32-27 on successive week-ends, before South Soo broke the streak by winning a thrilling 36-35 game at the armory. journeying to Elk Point, the Tanagers again downed the pointers, this time 38-27. The Yankton Bucks defeated a much weakened Tanager squad 45-30 before the Tri-State Champions. Le Mars, downed the locals 37-29. Pre-tournament games with Trinity, Sioux City, and Beresford were lost 38-18 and 30-16, respect- ively. The state 'A' Sectional Basketball Tournament was held in Vermillion this year at the armory.
