'Paul Faces the Tlre Shortage' and 'Wildcat Wlll1e', two onevact plays were aptly presented under the direction of Miss Marie Bela. ' V IIS 13 TYHDALL 0 The flrst game of the season was played on our own fleld with a victory over Tyndall 13-0. The gale showed Coach Nelson that with e little more work he would have a very good season. VHS 27 BERESFORD 0 After a good send-off of the 1943 football season the Tanagers ra- cked up thslr second win by de- feating Beresford 27-0. Having scored 40 points ln their flrst two starts and holdlng their opponents scoreless showed the Tanagers had plenty of scoring power besides a good defense. VBS 12 SOU.Tll SIOUX 7 Yllth 2 victories under their belts the Tanagers went to South Bloux City to pla'y their first night game of the year. This game was a closely fought battle until the final gun vlth Varllll ion edging out a la-1 victory over the Cardinals. F O 0 T B A L L VH S 14 LEEDS 27 The Tanagers recelved their first defeat of the season by the Leeds Lancers. Speed and all-around better playing by Leeds ln the first half proved the deciding factor of the game. ln the second half the two teams played on even terms but the Tanagers couldn't overcole the lead established. VHS 13 ELK POINT 0 With their flrat defeat of the year hanglng over their heads,the Tanagera went to lllf Point on the Pointers homecoming to prove the defeat hadn't hu.-t their morale any and forced s 13-5 victory over a very hard flghtlng Elk Pcln t teas. VHS 12 IIAWARDEW 0 By defeating llawarden 12-0, the Tsnagers won their homecoming game with plenty to spare. Play- ing good ball all t,he way., the Vermllllon footballers had little trouble ln scoring their too touchdowns. The winning of this gala placed the Tanegers on top of the Trl-State Conference stand ings . VHS G YANKTOII 13 Going to Yankton to play our old- est rival, the Yankton Bucks, in another thrilling game, was s battle between two very evenly balanced teams. The Bucks finally edged out a 13-5 victory over the Tanagers. The victor was not decided until the final gun went off. VHS 1 L! MARS l2 With only 2 defeats ln 1 games, the Tanagers journeyed to Lellars to a Trl-state Conference gale. The 'ranagers dldn't show up well under the lights that night. The Tanagere were edged out of the conference championship by a score of 12-8. VHS 27 CHITOI 0 The Tanmgers ended their football season with an easy victory over Canton 2'7-0- as the moore indlca- tes, Vermillion had no trouble and the reserves played a lot of the gale. During the season the Tsnagers scored 130 Pain'-I rv 55 for their opponents and ended with six games won and three lost .
