FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA Charlotte Kaltsulas, Evelyn Jacobsen, Kathleen Paulson, Marilyn Horner, Florence Jacobsen Merrie Lou Conaway, Marilyn Dawson, Marilyn Cotton, Phyllis Leikvold, Marie Stevenson Kathleen Brick, Barbara Brookman, Marjorie Erickson, Dorothy Dunlap, joy Golz, Dorothy Barton The Mr. Chips Chapter of the Future Teachers of America had eighteen members. The club was organized in May 1939 and received its charter from the National Education Association. Meetings were held regularly during the year. To make money, members of the club sold ice cream bars after school on Wednesdays and Fridays. Marjorie Erickson was president of the club and Peggy Cadwell was secretary-treasurer. Miss Gould acted as adviser.

HI-Y Pat Lee, Charles Anderson, Clark Strong, Donavan Peterson, Jim Jorgensen, jerry Harlow, Gene Nelson, Duane 0'Daniels, Bob Gravrok, Joe Dawson, Burdette Benson, Don Jenson, Stanley Lee jack Sampson, Leo Palensky, Bob Haines, John Armstrong, Francis Armstrong, Orvin Gunderson, Andrew Seiler, Bradley Simons, Burton Lawrensen, Alden Boline, Adviser-Mr. Kirchdoerfer Jim Baxter, Melvin Erickson, Arthur Nissen, Vincent Peterson, Lowell Hansen, Donavan Bacon, Bill Bowie, Harlan Emerson, Archie Bacon Lester Emerson, Eugene Seiler, Wayne Johnson, Arthur Erickson The Hi-Y Club is an active boys' organization in high school. There are about forty-five members in the club. The officers are: president, Robert Gravrokg vice-president, Joe Trotzigg secretary- treasurer, Gene Nelson. The purpose of the club is 'to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community, high standards of Christian character.' Clean speech, clean sportsmanship, and clean living are also emphasized. The club has held meetings regularly during the year. The Hi-Y programs are both educational and recreational. The program included parties, intramural basketball, and a trip to Sioux Falls, where several members participated in a Y.M.C.A. basketball tournament there Each member of the club this year purchased a defense stamp and later canceled it at a general assembly. The stamps are to be framed and hung in the school hall. Mr. Kirchdoerfer was the faculty adviser for the boys' club.

GIRLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Twila Hanson, Eileen Lynch, Marilyn Cotton, Phyllis Leikvold, Shirley Leer, Helen Lockwood Mary Ellen Owens, Gloria Hanson, Marjorie Erickson, Barbara Brookman, Florence Jacobsen, Marie Stevenson, Kathleen Brick Susie Albers, JoEva Bauman, Ruth Marcotte, Dorothy Dunlap, Mary Margaret Sanger, Joy Golz, Adviser-Miss Bruening The Girls' Athletic Association celebrated its fifth anniversary this year, 1942. The association was organized by Miss Helen Anstey, physical education director for five years in Vermillion High School. This year Miss Marie Bruening, girls' athletic instructor, supervised the club. The purpose of the club is to promote an athletic interest, to create good sports- manship, and to foster good health. The GAA won first place in the Tanager Day parade for the most beautiful float. The drill team was also sponsored by this organization. There are fifty-five members in this organization. The officers are as follows: president, Dorothy Dunlap: vice-president, Ruth Marcotteg secretary-treasurer, Mary M. Sanger, social chairman, Joy Golzg sports chairman, joEva Baumang assistant sports chairman, Susie Albers.
