TRACK Marshall Cleland, joe Dawson, Leo Ballard, Vernon Lambert, Burdette Benson, Bill Bowie Wayne johnson, Tom Schatz, Melvin Erickson, Lowell Hanson, Robert Clark, Burton Lawrenson Elwood Macy, Walter Scott, Gordon Brown, Alden Boline, Don Brown, Lyle Lawrenson This season is expected to be a good track year for the thin- clads of Vermillion High. Although getting off to a poor start being beaten by Yankton 99-19, the Tanagers will be coming back strong in forthcoming meets. The Tanagers' team score may not be so high but some of the individual events look very good. At present Lambert is going over the bar at ll feet in the pole vaultg if he keeps this up, he is a cinch to place in the State Meet. Don Bacon this year is tak- ing over Lawerence Cusik's job of last year at high jumping. At present he is topping the bar at 5 ft. 8 in. Both Scott and Brown, hurdlers from last year, look much better this season. Both boys will be running high and low hurdles. Hanson and Radigan will be adding points in the dashes. Schatz will be running the quarter mile, Gordon Brown, the half mile, and Cleland, the mile. The Conference Meet will be held April 25, and the Tanagers are expected to make a good showing. On May 1, come the Dakota Relays, followed by the Regional Meet, followed by the State. The Tanagers then will be through with athletics for another year.
