Lorraine Donald Rothrock, Dick Edberg, Phyllis Anken Phyllis Leikvold Leikvold, Charles Lockwood, Alda Nelson, Joy Golz CLARINET QUARTET STRING TRIO Bob Gravrok, Patsy Hasik, Beverly Joyce Davis, Gloria Gamage, jean Olson, Dorothy Barton Sammelson. B A N D There are 68 members in the Vermillion High School Band. High school, junior high, and grade school students compose this membership A xylophone, four french horns, two baritones, two drums, two basses, and several other new instruments have been added to the band during the year. Its repertoire includes marches of every description, over- tures, and other miscellaneous music. Under the fine direction of Mr. Foss, the band concentrated on marching the first semester. It made a brilliant picture as it led the Tanager Day parade down Main Street. The band was awarded second prize of 525,00 in the High School Band contest sponsored by the University on Dakota Day. During the year the band played at four assemblies, and at every home football and basketball game as well as for the games at the dis- trict tournament. The band and the vocal department gave a concert November 19. Another concert was presented February 18 at which time the small grade school band also played several numbers. March 27, a formal concert was given in Slagle Auditorium. That was the final performance of the band before the music contest in April. The officers of the band were: president, Robert Gravrokg vice- president, joy Golzg secretary, Peggy Cadwell: treasurer, Patsy Hasik: librarian, Charles Lockwood: member-at-large, Robert Stark, assistant director, Donald Rothrockg drum major, Dean Lee.

One was given in October and the other April 17. The concert in April was the final performance of any of the various ensembles in this department before the contest. Am the beginning of the year the mixed chorus consisted of 70 members but due to contest restrictions the mem- bership was reduced to 54. This group provided music for the grade school operetta in Decem- ber. November 19 a concert was given by the mixed chorus and the high school band.
