Some of the members of the cast for Onions In The Stew . 1966 was the year of another smash hit for the Speech and Dramatics Department . The two speech classes combined their talents and under the direction of J.R. Armstrong and student director Trudy Tischer, produced Betty MacDonald's Onions In The Stew . The play was applauded by everyone as having been well done and indeed it was. Susan Backus and John Neff were cast as a typical married couple, who, while trying to make their home on an island must also cope with the problems of their teenage children, Marilyn Schrack and Betsy Kim- mick. While the MacDonalds are trying to settle themselves in their new life away from the city, we meet the various island folk, most of whom are plumbers . The rapid pace of the play carries us through the happy carefree moments of island life withtwo teenagers . The play, however, was much more than just an evening of laughter. In it there was a rare understanding of young people and avaluable lesson in getting something truly worthwhile from life. Onions in the Betty MacDonald Don MacDonald . Anne ....... joan ......
