Since then young people of our district have entered our school seeking the new challenge and the new opportunity waiting within. The construction of the school was an immense endeavor undertaken with the betterment of our children and, thereby, our communities as the major objective. The sacrifice made to assure that this school became a reality was great. As Americans, we recognize that sacrifice is often necessary in order to enjoy the benefits of living in a democracy including our freedom and our education. Rearing in mind that ed- ucation is freedom for it liberates us from the bondage of ignorance, these selfless efforts of our citizens, past and present, on behalf of our youth have been generous and profound. On our silver anniversary year, 1 wish to express my appreciation to everyone in our communities who has advanced the cause of education, whether as a taxpayer, a parent, a school person, or simply a caring individual. GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES The class of 1984 has spent many years here at V.U.H .S. and our lives have been touched by many individuals. Through the help and guidance of each, we have grown and learned . It is to one of these special people we dedicate our yearbook. Miss Susan Philputt has spent the past 5 years here at V.U.H .S. putting in countless hours to make our music department bigger and better. When Miss Philputt arrived at V.U.H S. she had a combined Jr. 6 Sr. High band of 42 students. Now only 5 years later Miss Philputt has a combined band of about 120 students. Miss Philputt also gives countless hours to extra activities such as musicals, jazz band, pep band, and numerous other activities. We owe her much and this is but a small token of our gratitude.
