1960 It was the fall of 1959 that Vergennes Union High School began its existence. It actually included the same students that attended Vergennes High School; however, now each of the five member towns was represented on the school board. A new building with modern laboratories, language rooms, cafeteria, library, auditorium, shops, etc. replaced the historic three story building which had served the communities faithfully for many, many decades. The new facility allowed much more diversification to help prepare the many interests, talents, ancl capabilities of its students for their continued educational experiences or their endeavors during their adult lives. It was much more easily adapted to meet the ever-changing challenges of American society. MERLE CROWN — Principal 1959-1967 Three graduates of the class of I960. the first class to graduate from V .V .11 S., have children graduating in the class of 1964. They are Joan Parks Barr, Cathy Senesac Douglas, and Ann Wisell Sullivan.
