FIRST ROW: Chamberlain, Field, Roberts, C. Tucker, G. Wisell, Gokey, W. Wisell, Clark, D. Tucker, Bodette, Thompson. SECOND ROW: Miller, Gee, T. Tucker, Stephens, Raymond, Patterson, Hallock, Torrey, Laramie, Wright, Sullivan, Mr. Ayer. Soccer On September 9, twenty-three candidates including several veterans and a number of boys who will be of great help in the future, reported for soccer practice. Bob Gokey was appointed the team captain. With Jim Patterson at center forward and Dave Stephens in the goal, Vergennes looked forward to a good season. Rounding out the roster for the Commodores in the front lines was freshman Charles Tucker at right wing. Jerry Roberts, Tommy Tucker and Billy Wisell alternated at both right and left inside. Jimmy Bodette, a returning starter, gave several fine showings during the season. With Jim Patterson the only senior in the line, next year's team should have depth and experience. Defensively Vergennes was stronger than they have been in several years. Captain Bob Gokey at fullback, a defensive stalwart, will be missed next year. Brian Gee, a newcomer, played exceptionally well at centerforward. Donald Wright, playing opposite Bob Gokey at fullback, gave Vergennes always needed goal-stopping strength. Doug Miller and Mike Thompson played left and right halfback respectively, ?nd combined with the defense men to stop many opposing drives. Congratulations to Coach Gordon Ayer and his team for a season which had its ups and downs, but they never lost their zeal for fair play and good sportsmanship.

Student Council Last Spring the student body of the Vergennes Union High School held its Student Council elections and the following officers were chosen: Donald Peabody, President; Constance Thurber, Vice-President; Audrey Fishman, Secretary; and Claudia Allen, Treasurer. With many new members on the council, learning from the experience of the older ones, we seemed to be ready for much progress. In November, Donald Peabody, Claudia Allen, and Audrey Fishman with our advisor, Mr. Jipp, attended the state convention in Rutland. Many ideas and suggestions were brought back which can help to improve and inspire our own council. A major project of the year has been the preparation of a student handbook. The Point System for student activities has been revised. Charter requirements for the organization of new clubs have been drawn up. Throughout the year the student council has sponsored many dances and sold soda at all school dances. FIRST ROW: Morse, Allen, Peabody, Mr. Jipp, Thurber, Fishman, Ryan. SECOND ROW: Norton, McNulla, Hallock, R. Baldwin, Pilger, White, N. Baldwin, Jackson, Vrooman, Quesnel.
