The time was September 1954, when a great change came at VHS. A quiet, peaceful place became a noisy, capacity-filled building. A group of teen-agers had gathered in a farther comer of the study hall. It was the Junior Class!--with Miss DeMeritt as Faculty Advisor; Carl Peabody, President; Shirley LeBeau, Vice President; Dorothy Sorrell, Secretary and Suzanna Jerger, Treasurer. Our class may boast such cross-country stars as the time-breaking Lee Veysey, followed by D. Ledoux, R. Vincent, P. McNulla, and numbers of others excellent in sports. Socially inclined, we have sponsored small dances, a big Christmas Dance, and the Junior Prom this year. Five of our members made the Square Dance Team! Set your sun dial for the Seniors of 1956! We, the staff of the 1955 BLUE AND WHITE, have been working diligently for some time now to reproduce in this book a picture memory of the school life at Vergennes High during the past year. As our readers thumb through the pages of this yearbook, we trust that they may be mindful of our theme entitled, Time, and Time Again, and of the subtle part that it plays in the life of all of us. We take this opportunity to give thanks where thanks are due--to our principal, Mr. Houghton D. Pearl, for his wise counsel; to our faculty advisor, Miss Frances Field, for her inspirational ideas and tireless help; to our printers, The Taylor-made Yearbook Company, for their skill of workmanship; to our photographers, The J. E. Purdy Co., Inc., for their fine artistry, and to all of our advertisers and subscribers without whose cooperation and support this book could not have been. Since Commencement is drawing near, the time has come when we must say good-by to all. To our Seniors, in particular, we wish Godspeed, as they leave now to become milestones on the road of time.
