During the past three years, new and wonderful things have been accomplished at Verdugo Hills High School. We can be proud of our higher academic standards, improved morale among the students, and more efficient operation of the school as a whole. Our student body knows that this progress is a direct result of the vigorous and tireless endeavor of our principal, Mrs. Smith. lt was largely due to her ideas and efforts that the new student organization, El Senado, was initiated and de- veloped. Always behind the scenes-yes, and on the scene, Mrs. Smith can be found cheering Verdugo on to new and greater accomplishments. In addition to these many contributions, she has found time to add a doctorate in education to her name, giving her a title in which we experience a mutual pride. To Dr. Giertrud Smith, for her zealous effort, never-say-die attitude, and un- failing interest in making our school top rank, we the 1960 Annual Staff, dedicate this yearbook.
