Earning a Diploma It is becoming more difficult for students to earn a diplo- ma. The State Department of Education has increased the number of Carnegie units for both advanced and general diplomas. Since the State Department is requiring more sub- jects, the only choices left for the students are whether to attend the trade school and take the appropriate classes for a general diploma or take all college preparatory classes to receive an advanced diploma. On top of all the other require- ments, students must also pass the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. Today, it is tough for high school students to earn a diploma.
