Dancing, Music Pla ed a Large Part Dancing not only was a favorite pastime of VHS students this year but it made Mondays easier to face, to know a dance was right around the corner. There were varieties of dances ranging from semi-formal such as Homecom- ing to casual after-game dances, from unique dances like the Toga-Punk rock dance to the more traditional Backwards dance. Each dance held its own not only with dress, but with music offering different types to suit the wide span of VHS students tastes. This was a historic year in rock music, marked by the death of John Len- non and John Bonham. Musical preferences were varied. In the mellow strain, Chris Cross and Kenny Logins prevailed. Those liking harder sounds were into AC! DC and Van Halen, whereas the rock sounds were Pat Bena- tar and Supertramp. A few of the New Wave party groups were the Police and Elvis Costello. As always, music played a large part in the social scene at VHS. A. 22 X Dancing B. A. When the music starts it's time to hit the floor. B. Halftimes Display 'Cougar Pride' Halftimes were full of class and style, adding entertainment and sparking the crowds' interest. As the time on the clock ran out ending the second quarter, anticipation built for those performing, and also for the expectant audience. Participants in halftime shows put in long, dedicated hours of practice to make their performances the best possible. Involvement by Marching Band, Pep Band, Small and Tall Flags, Dance Team, and Pep Squad made 1980-81, a year to be proud of, proving we are number one, and displaying our COUGAR PRIDE.
