Competition was held to determine the first, second, and third place winners. Within the league, each team consisted of six members, one of whom was the captain. Only four members were allowed to complete at one time. The V.H.S. The competition was part of the Educational Assistance Program. Linda McCombs was first place winner, and Tom Lascher was the second place winner of the youth Citizenship Awards sponsored by the Soroptomist Club of Ventura. The Awards program involves high school seniors who are judged on the basis of service to the community, student activities, leadership, earned awards, aims, and purposes. No stars, all contributed, said Coach Hahn. Four juniors and nine seniors were on the small squad. They worked out 5- 6 hours a day since spring, and the improve- ments showed. This year was the first time ever that Ventura beat Buena. The waterpolo team had a lot of firsts, and one of them was night games. The Most Valuable Players were Mike Thornhill and jim Eckstrom. The Team Captain was Bob Henry.Jim Eckstrom, in addition to being one of the most valuable players, scored the most points and also had the most steals of any member on the team. Wrestling is the most demanding of all high school sports. It requires superb physical conditioning and mental discipline.
