We're Proud To Dedicate . . . . . . . the 1959 Black Gold to Marvin V. Ol- son not only for his years of service in the field of education, but especially for his sin- cere interest in and friendliness to the stu- dents of V.S.H. A native of Hartington, Nebraska, Mr. Ol- son received his B. A. degree from Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota, and his lVl. A. degree from the University of South- ern California. 11is extensive and varied ex- perience not only includes teaching and coaching in Arizona and Nebraska, but he was also Superintendent of Schools in Royal, Nebraska. Mr. Olson entered the Ventura, California school system in 1938, and became a mem- ber of the V.S.H. faculty in 1952. His stu- dents know him as a fine and inspiring busi- ness teacher. Those who are not in his class- es know him for his friendliness and under- standing interest in many campus activities. No matter how full his schedule may be, he finds time to help the Black Cold staff with class and club picture-taking, and the distri- bution of the Yearbook in june. Every day, rain or shine, he can be found during the lunch hour supervising the operation of our busy cafeteria. Only an occasional glance from him is sufficient to move the line crash- eru back into his rightful place. Active in church and comnnmity, he is a member of the Masonic Order and the Santa Barbara Lodge of Perfection, Scottish llite. His hobbies include ranching and the pro- duction of avocadoes and lemons, and golf and tennis. He may take a little ribbing for his love of chocolate malts, but it's all in friendly fun. Talk about foreign cars, and he is serious, especially if you bring up the subject of his Karmen Chia and his Hawk. Faculty and students alike have a known friend in Marvin V. Olson, and we are proud to have this opportunity to show our appre- ciation for this outstanding teacher. H 'ia A95 l '
