A, Kirkpatrick is the faculty adviser of the organization l'l'llllfl The Ventura Junior College Senior Tri-Y received special recognition to others is the purpose of this fine club which is a divisoin of the Young 1 XX!ornen's Christian Association, lt is one of the rnore interesting, spirited ' clubs of -the campus. , - Officers of the Senior Tri-Y arez Olive Bright, president, Winifred Burtles, vice-president, Ruth Nakaya, secretary, Grace O'Donnell, treasurer. Lack of a sufficient number of men hampered Coach Bob Gowder's Varsity track team from winning any con- ference meets. Several individuals, however, came through with sterling performances to win a number of first, second, and third places, ln the first meet of the season the Pirates were able to win one third place and three fifth places. Tom Donnelly placed third in the novice l00 yard dash. Com- peting against some of the best relay teams on the coast, the Pirate 440 relay team, composed of John Stewart, George Prentice, Tom Donnelly, and Bob Serey, placed fifth. ln a triangular meet with Glendale JC and UCLA frosh, Bob Serey was second in both the 440 and 220 yard dashes. George Prentice placed second in the mile and the two mile, and Bill Schneider and John Stewart tied for third place in the javelin throwing event. Ul'l'USl'l'l'1 l'At'Hi The Varsity track squad won over the Santa Barbara State Frosh. In the meet Bob Gowder's cindermen amassed a total of 70 points while the Gauchos were able to garner only 6l. Clyde lvlinnear won three first places to lead the Varsity track squad to a decisive victory over San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria Junior College in their last meet, Coach Gowder's men gathered 65 l-3 points while their two northern foes were scoring 28 l-3 each. During the l938 track season two Ventura Junior College records were broken. Bob Serey ran the 220 in 2l.9 seconds to set a new local junior college record. George Prentice bettered a mark set by Harold Small- wood when he ran the 440 in 50.l seconds at Santa Monica.
