The theme we have chosen this year is CALLED, as suggested in II Timothy 1:9a: Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose. . Because we believe that God has called every born- again believer to some area of service, we are at Vennard preparing ourselves for that calling. In the 1961 Vision we would like to show you that we are not only being prepared for but also being trained in these various areas. God has a purpose for each of us. May we en- deavor to find it and to faithfully fulfill it. The Vision Staff J-,Guy-fC0a,u6 Sharon Clark Editor . 'Q r-as ji' ,v I Q ' FRC CUR PRE IDE T So send I you -these words of our Lord first addressed to His disciples are no less applicable to you who, today, we send forth in His name. The world into which we send you is in many ways a vastly different world than that which faced those early disciples, and yet in some ways it is very similar -it is a hostile world-a world, if anything, more impervious to the claims of the Gospel we are com- missioned to preach. The ambassador of the Cross en- joys no special privileges-you must be prepared, if need be, to suffer for Christ's sake, but remember that He who said. So send I you, also said. Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the age. A MINISTR TIO FERN L. TODD B.S.L., B.A. Vice President and Comptroller MERNE A. HARRIS B.S.L., B.A., M.A. Vice President and Dean H. M. The Christmas section of the Messiah, which was presented after only 5 practices tbecause ot' the absence of Mr. Tink during the first quarterj, was an outstanding event with a most gratifying response in audience and appreciation. In addition to special music at Commencement and Baccalaureate the presentation of the Faster section of the Messiah on Easter Sunday composed the principle activities of the Oratorio Chorus for the year. Special classroom sessions were held for the campus visitorsg hearts were refreshed at the morning chapel hour each day, and the afternoons proved stimulating with workshops pro- vided to meet the varied interests of our guests. An inspira- tional hour was held each evening, with the Reverend Dale Ward, alumnus of Vennard, bringing a challenging message, and alumni of the school participating in music and testimony. The activities came to a climax with a banquet on the final evening, followed by the pageant, ALABASTER AND SPIKENARD, which presented the life story of Dr. Ven- nard. During these Spirit-filled days, the mantle of Dr. Vennard and her Spirt-filled life rested upon the campus once more. ,,,1-v- , fm-'T gb.. - . nf L,-f Y , Mau-54 ., '.:t f lf- ' ' A fl l' . ,. v ' ' ' l .3 i i fi i L. They are: C15 To act as a liaison group between faculty and students, and QZQ To aid in maintaining a family unit and in developing a deeper spiritual life in each individual student. This is truly a busy organization performing the following duties: assignment of Big Brother and Big Sisters during the summer, a Get-acquainted party in September, super- Vision of the publication of the Annual, Open-house activities, Christmas decorations, Valentine party, election of Student Council president and delegates, and the selection of an Annual-Staff editor. The constant prayer of each member is to be willing to work toward the accomplishment of these goals. YGLING PEOPLE' CLINES LE GUE The Young Peoples' Holiness League is a student organization designed to encourage spirituality among the student body in areas not reached by other groups in the school. Without Music Culture Club these events and many others would not have been enjoyed by the Vennard students. The club co-operates with the Oskaloosa Community Concert Association every year, which sponsors four concerts of outstanding professional artists. In addition, meetings are held frequently during the year by the club. These meet- ings are informal, such as the evening Raymond Comstock discussed and played the violin. This year the club presented Mr. Comstock .and Mr. Shelby in a joint recital, which we remember so well.
