'30 y LOGIOS SOCIETY The newly reorganized speech club, the Logios Society, chose a challenging topic for its first meet- ing: Resolved-That the Furtherance of All Nu- clear Weapon Tests Shoud be Abolished in All Countries as the subject to be debated. Mr. Merne Harris acted as chairman, with President Logan as honorary host and Mrs. Merne Harris as honorary hostess for the social hour preceding the debate. Mrs. George Kushman, instructor in speech, dem- onstrated real skill in the planning and decorating of the space-minded program. The Logios Society has been organized to replace the former Sip and Chat Club and has as its pur- pose the development of skill in debate and dis- cussion. The name Logios is a Greek word meaning eloquent or skilled in words and is used in Acts 18:24 to describe Apollos as an eloquent man, mighty in the Scriptures. 60

v , zafvgf'-1 -:W-iw : r X N su, 'Q One criticism often directed against Christians is that we are uninformed about our contemporary world. At C. E. I. it has been felt that the criticism is perhaps well taken-that a conscientious Christian should be well informed about the Current Events of our age. We do, after all, believe that the Bible speaks to this age, and it is undoubtedly true that there are many present-day happenings which have a definite relation- ship to the unfolding of prophetic predictions. , The formal organization designed to develop in our students an appreciation of events as they transpire and an ability to rightly interpret these happenings is the Current Events Club. Membership is limited as to number, but any interested C. E. I. student may join until the membership list is full. This year's members include Carol Abendroth, Sharon Clark, Stanley Gravett, Virginia Gravett, Aaron Gray, janet Hawke, Inez Hebel, Hester A. Humble, Marjory Kies, Betty Klein, Dick Klein, Beverly Miller, Earl Miller, Mary Reinking, Carl Smith, Dorothy Smith, Bernita Snyder, Alvin Wagner, and jack Wfolgamuth. Our advisor is Merne A.
