Nil VENICE ON T. V. On February 4. SPOTLIGHT ON YOUTH exhibited their Latin Projects and Articles of Antiquity from the schools Classical Museum. Represents Venice High School at all civic, inter- school or any other meetings where the school needs to be represented. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and boards appointed by the advisor of the Student Government Class. Has the power to appoint members of the Student Government Class to any committee necessary at that time to further express the duties of the class. Tlieir social activities this year have taken them horseback riding. Christmas carolling, on snow trips and on slumber parties. PREMIERE--SANDY KELLER The Chatelaines of Venice High School are organized to be of direct assistance in the promotion of unity among the students and in the promotion of high standards of service to the school, both as a group and as individuals. Their duties consist of ground duties and serving at banquets. faculty organization meetings, and work shops. They have outside social affairs which include parties for members of the Chatelaines only. and in conjunction with the other service groups. ln order to become a member, a girl must be voted in by the older members and approved by the faculty. The membership consists of 25 girls in the l0th and l lth grades, and there are always at least live girls from each of these grades. The chief activity this year, under the new sponsorship of Mr. Larzelerc. was to expand the intramural program by creating greater participation. At the end of each tournament, trophies were awarded the winning team. They also selected the Boy of the Week, and along with Girls' League. sponsored the Christmas Dance. Each varsity game found the band on the field at half-time in intricate forma- tions and shows. During the rest of the year the band, under the supervision of Mr. Glass. performed concerts here at Venice High and at other schools. It also took part in a yearly festival at which time the members competed with other schools. B-10 STEERING COMMITTEE The aim of the B-lO Steering Committee is to inform all B-10's of the activities and drives that take place and enables them to become better acquainted with the school. This organization takes part in and helps pro- mote school activities, mostly among B-l0's. The members are elected out of the B-l0 Eng- lish classes and are responsible for relaying back to their classes all business that takes place. The Winter president was Sandy Wysong. The chief purpose of the Future Teachers of America is to interest young people in teaching and inform them of the advantages, opoprtunities, train- ing needs, scholarships and loans available. SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club works to stimulate an interest in all phases of science, and also to give its mem- bers a well-rounded social education. This past year the club reached an all-time activity high. They became members of the Science Clubs of America and Los Angeles County. On the third Wednesday in each month representatives were sent to a meeting of this organization. The Science Club was privileged to make a tour of the laboratories of Douglas Aircraft Plant. Recreation included a wiener roast, a Halloween party, and the annual Christmas party. Gordon Waller is vice president. STAGE CREW The stage crew is part of the art department. lt is responsible for staging all performances and assemblies here at Venice High. Its purpose is to develop interest and skills in all phases of the theatre, television. and movie productions. The annual activities of the stage crew include as- sistance in the performances of the a'cappella, glee club. band, and orchestra. RADIO CLUB The radio club is organized for the purpose of help- ing amateurs get their radio license and to teach radio function and theory. They also operate a school station. KNITTING CLUB The Knitting Club is an organization which is de- signed to teach girls how to knit, and to provide a hobby which will carry over after graduation. Their activities so far include the knitting of squares for afghans for the Red Cross. The sole requirement for membership is a desire to learn to knit. The group is sponsored by Mrs. Van Streain. MATH CLUB The Math Club is an organization designed to band together those students who are interested in the various phases of mathematics. Their activities included the in- vestigation of topics of higher math beyond the level of the ordinary course. It also seeks to guide its members into vocations applying math. Once each month one of the three sponsors, Mr. Pomerantz, Mr. Gurzynski, or Mr. Parry, would present a favorite subject for lecture and discussion. On the fourth Week the president would conduct the meeting. An excursion of the club took them to U.C.L.A. where they inspected the electronic computer. Today was our opportunity to vote for President of the United States. The Republican ticket took the election by a slight margin. Another football defeat. This time by Dorsey, l8-l3. The Milk Bowl Game with Van Nuys did nothing to boost our spirits with a 32-7 loss. An eventful day with King and Queen of Rainbow Week crowned, a 21-I4 victory over Marshall, and the terrific P.T.A. Queens' Dance sponsored by the class of S'58. vember --- Our luck has certainly changed as University High goes down to defeat, 34-6. We say goodbye to first place as Fairfax wins 27-I3. We have a vacation front school to pay tribute to our vet- CNHIS. The talent show we all enjoyed so much was the Venice High Revue. Crazy Hat Day really produced some original creations. Our first homecoming day in 7 years ends sadly as Hamilton came out the victor 19-l3. Homecoming queen and princesses were crowned at halftime. with Kirk Wilson as guest of honor. December 7.. I3- With the atmosphere of a Moonlight Sleighridej' the Christ- mas Dance was delightful. Monday was Girls' Day in school, Tuesday, Career Day and Wednesday, Surprise Day, when the girls couldn't speak to the boys. New members took the oath and Roman Lamps were awarded. 26-The spring formal took us on a trip to Holland as the name was Dutch Holiday. May 9-Career Day gives the seniors an opportunity to End out more about the fields of work they are interested in. I6-The combined efforts of Terpsichoreans and the Crescendocs produced a dance extravaganza, Highlights of Musical Comedy. Arrivederci made you feel as if you were actually in Venice, Italy. 28-Nice manners and fashions make their showing at the Senior Faculty Tea. 30-Our first holiday in a long time and our last one for the se- mester is in tribute to our soldiers who lost their lives for our country's freedom. 31 - A fashion show by the top designers could not give as complete a review of the latest styles as is given on Venice High Cotton Day. A noon dance featuring the Crescendocs added to the day along with the crowning of the King, Queen, and Princesses. June -l-The G.A.A. Banquet was held in its usual suspenseful atmos- phere waiting for the announcement of officers. The girls really have a terrific time when they get together on this night. i -This is the fathers' ,night to feel proud as they watch sons re- ceiving their athletic awards at the Sports' Award Banquet. As you may know, the Western League is the toughest of all.
