PrIncIp I Clernentma de Fore t Graff n charts out courses for students FLIGHT REPORT FROM CHIEF PILOT GRIFFIN EARLY ONE MORNING I adlusted a parachute clImbed Into a plane In the seat back of the Instructor and took off Slowly we cIImbed hIgher and hIgher to 3 500 or more feet and then wIth a warnIng Don t be fnghtened the Instructor throttled the motor and poInted the nose of the plane upward Suspended for a tense moment In whIrlIng round and round I was experIenc Ing my IIFSI spIns RestraInIng a womanly shrIek I closed my eyes and grabbed the suspenders on the Instructor s chute At about I 500 feet we leveled off opened the throttle and agaIn flew upward After thIs procedure had been followed several tImes I found It possIble to keep my eyes open and to follow through wIth the stIck lo l belIeve that the thrIll of those fIrst splns was greater than my fIrst solo though I must admIt It was an awesome and sol emn moment for me when durnng a lesson a few weeks later the Instructor cllmbed out and announced C-ood luck you re off aone It was lIterally a case of do or Ie ence these same thrIlIs wIthIn the next few years When you are In the skIes alone you wIIl have need of self relIance Independent and clear thInkIng alertness and self dlSCI plIne I trust that durIng your hIgh school years you have developed and strengthened such traIts Wherever you may be and whatever your vocatIon my wIsh for each and every one of you IS Happy LandIng I ' 'a . LIFE IS GIVEN to each of us to make the most of. To accomplish anything we must plan and carefully think out what we hope to do.
