MAMIE L. SALLEE Girls' Vice-Principal R. B. SHAW Boys' Vice-Principal MRS. SALLEE'S MESSAGE To the Youth ot Venice High School: The future is in your hands. Now is your opportunity to prepare to work out the many problems ahead. ln so far as you are alert to the needs ot your world and as you are ready to meet them so will you be able to obtain the degree of success to which you aspire. Your friend, rvifxiviie L. SALLEE MR. SHAW'S MESSAGE The theme of this issue of the Gondolier is Youth . Do you, reader, think of this Youth just as a period of glorious aban- donment, and unrestrained joy, or do you sometimes think of it as a period of prepa- ration? Preparation to make your payment to the world for all the comforts and happi- ness it has given youg preparation to make your contribution to improving the world tor yourself and your group as well as for that youth who are to come after you. Youth shall be joyful. Youth should be gay, but through all this pleasure there should continuously run the thought of a coming responsibility and preparation for it. This will not make the pleasure less enjoy- able, but will give it dignity and value. lt is no greater fun to destroy property than to improve it. The thrill is about the same in either case, but the one destroys the per- petrator's capacity tor further pleasures. The other enlarges this capacity tor greater pleasures as he moves higher in the scale ot social values from this period of glorious vouth. R. B. SHAW
