P i Q X is To my friends the Seniors: AFTER GRADUATION-WHAT? Graduation from High School is a formal ending of a definite, prescribed course of study which leads to a diploma, This day is never called Final Day but always Commencement Day . Truly graduates of schools everywhere and of every sort begin a new line of thought and endeavor different from anything they have done before. Speaking definitely to you, members of the Venice High School graduating class of l937, What is to be your attitude toward your new surroundings and your new associates? Are you going into business of some form? lf so, since you are now a graduate of a high school, a goal you have been trying hard to attain for some years, are you going to feel exalted by that fact so that you will expect the president of the business, or his secretary or his fore- man or even a head clerk to show you around, to introduce you to the place, the job and the personnel? Are you going to a college or university? Well then, will you, since you are a graduate Of something-or-other, wait for the president of the college, or a professor to come to you and escort you about, show you the campus, the buildings, and introduce you-or will you remember that you are a scrub , a neophyte, a lowly freshman, Perhaps another freshman, one not quite so green as you will show you the honors . ALL this means one all-important thing, THE TIME HAS COME WHEN YOU MUST STAND ON YOUR OWN TWO FEET, Perhaps no one will tell you the laws cf the shop or other business, no one will tell you the rules and the traditions of the college you have entered. You will have to find them out for yourself, You must learn by knocks and falls how to avoid trouble. You must learn how to gain victories by seeming defeats. You will become strong by overcoming weaknesses. Know no such word as failure. Make good men and women your friends. Choose good and avoid evil. Refuse even in the first days of this new experience to be discouraged. SUCCESS ALWAYS COMES TO THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO DO THESE THINGS. Faithfully and sincerely yours, E. XV. CLARK Principal
