To the eye of the onlooker it J sseeps everything before it, and them it ie gone. Truly compared to the length of the night it lasts but a L few instanta, yet in those few seconds of grandeur and brilliancy the darkness of the nijht is lifted and J the beauties of the universe are revealed to the eary traveler. Though the drama lasts but a second the L beauty leaves an impression that lasts forever becoming a beautiful memory of the past. Donald lhite wills his flashing personality and his most unusual intellectual ability plus his winning ways with the members of the opposite sex to Bige lorgan. knowing full well that these abilities will never be wasted in the capable hands of Bige. laxine Pierce leaves lajorie Killer her ability to be carnival queen next year when there aren't any 8100.00 bills lying around handy. Bill Woods leaves his ability to do nothing to Dare Devil, not that he needs it, although Bill works under the theory that there can never be too much of a good thing. Billy Epley wills his artistic ability for drawing beautiful scenes under the tropical moon of the Hawiian Islands to Howard Smith. The moral effects of these pictures make many junior boys' toe nails curl, and eyelids roll, but we sincerely believe that Howard is the one most affected by the beautiful drawings. Jottie Jones leaves her ability to ask silly questions in biology to lary Nell Doak who probably will not be able to put to its best use. Bill Turner leaves his quite and mannerly conduct in class to Ronald Hammond. Bill's motto is, 'A Still Tongue lakes A lise Head And Also A Good Grade.' lith sincere but doubtful hope that he will use this precious lift to its fullest extent. Bo Burton wills his ability to crawl under locked doors and prowl in candy boxes to Don Scantlin and Sunny Elmore: also his ability to appear completely innocent while being grilled by expert candy detectives. The two recipients should be warned, how- ever, that this is one sure way of becoming a diabetic and a nicotine slave. Edna Faye Fletcher leaves her cat green eyes to Bonnie Layn. We hope that she will use this beautiful gift oncross-eyed Willie IcGowen asEdna Faye uses them on Bo Burton. Oleta Parsely leaves her brillant mind Ind good grades to Charlie Olds. We think Charlie will put this to gteat use. Buddy Parsely wills his ability to discourage enemy ball carriers, plus his love for Hardy Jean Liles to 0. l. Folsom with the specific provision that these abilities be utilised to the fullest. I, Clyde Hurst, in this, sob, my last will and testimony, sob, will to Robert lichell the ability to influence teachers and hope he isn't pestered by them as I have been. Jerb Bryant 'jew' leaves his position as king of the Carnival to any junior who is smooth enough to juggle his finances in important contest and who can assume an air of innocence at sll times. If there is not one in the junior class who can qualify for this important task, it is in his specific will thst it be handed uncontested to Gene Aldridge. Viola Olds wills her ability to attend school every day, plus her ability to win friends and influence people to jean Houston. Josephine ladkins wills all her contempt for underclsssmen and her complete devotion to her own group to lary Chapman with the sincere hope that it will make her a better class member. Holly Smith wills his ability to solve intricate math problems and baffle teachers with his complicated theories and high sounding phrases to Eugene lood with the desire that it will have a profound effect upon his rambling tongue. Margie Moore wills her ability to hypnotise her opponents in basketball games until she has scored thirty points and her ability to soothe the nerves of upset under- classaen and her winning ways with Keith Harris to Laquieta Burkhart with the specific request that the winning ways not be practiced upon Howard Smith. Roy Turner wills his bus driving job to layne Newman, who we think will be well qualified for the position. layne has occupied the position as back seat driver for the last two years. Roy Turner and Sue Hupp have long been active in extra-curricular activities. Their pleasant personalities and generous co-operative spirit has made them popular with students and teachers alike. All District M When the Comet grid squad assembled late in August for its annual trip to Craterville Park. Prospects did not seem very bright. Gone were eight game schedule. Back to lead the 1948 squad were, Captain, Bo Burton. Bill Epley and Don Scantlin, plus a likely looking prospect in transfer Buddy Parseley. With a spirit that is becoming a trade mark of V-A teams, the squad tore into the task at hand. As the workouts progressed things began to look up with Robert Mitchell, tiny end, Bobby Dix, Jackie Sc0tt. Wayne Newman, Bob Smith, Jerry Southerland, Don White. Gene Aldridge, Roy Turner, Ronald Hammond, Troy Carroll and Keith Harris indicating they were plenty capable of picking up where the 1947 team had stopped. In the opening game with Graham the Comets attack sputtered and missed but with the'aid of brilliant running by Scantlin and Scott, the team come through with a 14-0 victory. The Comets next engaged the Foxes of Fox: led by a hard charging line and the hard running of Scantlin and Scott the Comets emerged victor- ious 26-0. With the end of the Fox game all eyes were turned to the approaching Wilson game. The undefeated Wilson team led by all State Bill Doty and a large hard charging line stopped the winning streak of the Comets. With the small Comet charging desperately the score was 7-6, Wilson, going into the fourth quarter. Then the Comets weakened and Wilson won 21-6. Robert Mitchell played an outstanding game for the Comets. On a cold wintry night the Comets jour- neyed to Marietta to contest the Marietta Indians in a battle for runner up position in the 6-B Conference. Led by the hard tackling and blocking of Buddy Parsley and Bo Burton and the running of Bob Dix, the Comets won 27-0, but it was a rather sad occasion since 6 Seniors played their last Football-game for V-A. Bo Burton, Buddy Parsley. Bill Epley. Don White, Clyde Hurst and Marion Bryant all bowed out in a blaze of glory. The Comets next journeyed to Comanche takeon the Indians on their own stomping ground Behind beautiful blocking which ripped gapi holes in the enemy lines the Comet backs rac for huge gains to earn a well deserved 14 victory. The play of guard Bill Epley was ou standing in this game. The next week the come again hit the road to engage highly regard Ringling, which boasted of a large hard chargi line and a fast backfield. When the Come kicked to the Blue Devils to open the game seemed as if all fears were fully justified do the field they came with a relentless attac The Comet defense finally clicked on the fifte yard line. Then the Comets went into action: six plays had scored their first touchdown. T clincher was applied with the opening of t second half when Don Scantlin raced ninety-fi yards with the kick off for a Touchdown. T Comets won 27-7. The Comets next toyed with t Duncan Bees, winning 27-0, while reserves play most of the game. A, ,. The team started showly but finished with four victories in the last two weeks of play. The steady play of Parsley, Scantlin, Turner, Mitchell and Newman, made the comets a team to be restricted by all its opponents. Mitchell shoots in Duncan game. Scantlin scores against Wilson.
