We are proud to have as our principal a man who has such a keen interest in Veedersburg High School and in its students. Because of his en- couragement and enthusiasm, we students have taken a greater pride in ourselves, in our ed- ucation, and of course, in our school. Mr. Stevens is able to set us at ease quickly, and with his power of understanding, he can help us solve our problems efficiently. The climax was an all-school party. During this affair, we were given one more dose of torture by the seniors, and afterward we were considered true members of the high school. The fall of 1955 also found us working on our first homecoming float. We had decided that we wanted to start a fund for a trip to be taken immediately after graduation. A huge food sale was planned during our sophomore year. It was a success, and the money started our fund. The Junior-Senior Prom and the Junior Play were the big events of our 1957-58 school year. We gave three one-act plays: The Wedding , Casanova Jr. , and Sally and the Villain . Each re- ceived an enthusiastic response from the audience. Nearly everyone in the class had a part in the production. We all breathed a sigh of relief as the curtain closed the final time. The money from this affair and other activities financed the Junior-Senior Prom, which was held at Purdue University. We realized our dreams on May 16, 1958, when everyone arrived at the Union Building, and the long awaited evening began. After the banquet, everyone danced to the music of a campus orchestra. The theme of the Prom was An Affair to Remember . A special showing of the movie by the same name was arranged for us at the local drive-in theater after the Prom. In the wee hours of the morning, our mothers provided us with an enticing breakfast. We had the popcorn and sandwich concessions at the football and basketball games during our last year of high school. Skating parties, a car wash, a play, and other money-making schemes were used in an effort to earn more money for our trip. Now we are all anticipating spring with both joy and sadness. This year, 1959, marks the end of our high school career. Each of us wonders what the future holds and hopes he can fit into society successfully. And even though we are sad in leaving the good ship, V. H. S. Pintus, we are leaving happy memories behind. The class sold about 31200. 00 worth of magazine subscriptions, sponsored a very success- ful sock hop, and sold cokes at all the football and basketball games. Of course, the prom was foremost in the minds of all upperclassmen. The responsibility of this affair rested on the shoulders of the juniors. As the second semester grew shorter, their minds be- came more preoccupied with prom plans and less in- terested in homework. FREEMAN'S Attica Indiana Grocery and Shell Products Annual Staff Christmw One of the most important social events of the 1958-59 school year was the Christmas Ball, sponsored by the Annual Staff. The members of the staff began very early the morning of the dance to transform the gym into a vivacious ballroom setting. In keeping with the Christmas theme, a large Christmas tree which almost touched the ceiling, was beautifully decorated and spotlighted. The tree was, per- haps, the center of attention and stood at the left side of the gym in front of the stage. To the right of the stage on the gym floor was the impressive setting for the lovely throne upon which the beautiful queen, Charlotte McKinney, reigned. A white sparkle dust tree against a red silk back drop provided an effective motif for the coronation. Clusters of crepe paper attractively hung provided false walls around the gym. Rows of balloons on the ceiling added gaiety to the atmosphere. The tables were decorated in keeping with the holiday season and were also by candlelight. Music was provided by Bill Linson and his Moon Glows. Presiding at the refreshment table with its colorful appointments were the following gracious hostesses: Mrs. Art Parham, Mrs. Gerald Gookins, Mrs. Herb Allen, Mrs. Richard Myers, Mrs. Edgar McKinney, Mrs. Rose Harper, and Mrs. Greg King. Comin' Round the Mountain was a one-act hillbilly play. Dynamite Ann tried to keep law and order in the community. Her project at that time was the capture of Cactus Pete, the masked bandit. Zeke Bemis' main pastime was courting Daisy Judkins. With the aid of Carey Newbold, Zeke did win Daisy, and the bandit that had terrorized the mountain folk was finally caught by Pap Judkins. The play was under the direction of Mr. O'Brien. COMlN' 'ROUND THE MOUNTAIN CLUE OF THE RED RIBBON The eight grade English class under the direction of Mr. O'Brien presented a delightful comedy, CLUE OF THE RED RIBBON. Those taking part in the play were Qforegroundj Gaye King and Kay Tubbs, the pretending hillbilly cousins, fseated, left to rightl Sheila Meadows, the teacher, Linda Mills, Mitzi Switzer, Carolyn Groce, guests, Geanette Clawson, hostess, Linda Haas, guest, Qstandingj Jody Wilson, guest. The action of the play centers around the antics of the two pretending hillbilly cousins, and the scene is a summer lake resort. The hostess invites several friends and her teacher to act as chaperone. The hostess' mother, with- out the consent of her daughter, has invited her two nieces from Kentucky. The two nieces arrive and overhear the other girls referring to them as hicks . Irritated over this, they do dress as hillbillies, much to the em- barrassment of the hostess who is horrified. Their antics provide side-splitting laughter and many humorous episodes to be enjoyed by the audience. Shown in the background are the girls who participated in a very colorful English Ribbon Dance. Paul Pritchard, Virginia Cooper, Barbara Lee, Karen Minick, Reba Clift are all smiles as they pre- pare to board the bus for their eagerly awaited trip Paul Pritchard and Gregg Baxter seem to be thoroughly enjoying the trip. Senior On May 30, 1959, eighteen sleepy-eyes seniors and two sponsors stumbled into a bus at 4:30 a.m. to begin a nine-day trip. After fourteen hours of riding, we reached Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bright and early the next morning everyone piled into the bus again. This time we stopped at Gettysburg, Penn- sylvania, and in a few hours time we were riding down Embassy Row in Washington D. C. After freshening up a bit, we walked to O'Donnel's Restaurant and ate seafood dinners. A guided tour of our capitol city was scheduled for Monday. We visited Mount Vernon, Jefferson, Washington and Lincoln Memorials, Arlington Cemetery, the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, and Smithsonian Institution. Tuesday brought rain and another long ride. We saw Constitution Hall in Philadelphia on our way to New York City. That evening as we trudged along through the drenching rain we got our first view of Broadway, the great white way. We also got our first idea of the complicated operations of NBC Radio and Television Studios. At Radio City Barbara Lee, Virginia Cooper, Karen Minick, Reba Clift, Jim Mc- Clure, J oe Robbins, Susan Towell, Katha Smith, Judy Harper, Paul Pritchard, Don Harper, Larry Krout, Gary Mitchell, Fred Steele, Gregg Baxter, and Phillip Chumley are shown as they visit Gettysburg. Paul Pritchard is shown catching a piece of luggage At the Tomb of the Un- known Soldier are Don Harper, Katha Smith, Judy Harper, Paul Pritchard, and Gregg Baxter. A replica of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima attracts the attention of Gary Mitchell, Joe Robbins, Reba Clift, Mrs. Craig, Barbara Lee, Virginia Cooper, and Karen Minick. On the Bowery in New York City are Virginia Music Hall, we watched the Rockettes perform. Fortunately, warm sunshine instead of rain accompanied us the next day as we toured the Bowery, China Town, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and Macy's Department Store. Seven of us made the rounds of three night clubs during our last evening in New York. We visited the Latin Quarter, Sammy's Bowery Follies, and the Hawaiian Club. Thursday, we headed back toward Indiana. However, we still had some sights to see. Among them were Hyde Park and Niagara Falls. We all marveled at the beauty of the falls especially when we viewed the cascades of water falling at night with colored lights focused on them. Our last overnight stop was Detroit, Michigan. Sunday morning we visited Greenfield Village before starting the last leg of our journey home. Veedersburg was a welcome sight to most of us, but we all talked about the wonderful time we had had together during the last nine days and agreed that our senior trip was an ex- perience we would never forget. Pausing at Niagra Falls are Cooper, Barbara Lee, Gary Mitchell, Paul Pritchard, Gregg Baxter, Karen Minick, Reba Clift, Mr. and Mrs. Riekeberg, and Phillip Chumley. Reba Clift, Karen Minick, Jane Myers, and Paul Pritchard.
