Senior Memoirs In the fall of 1950, fifteen Seniors embarked upon a memorable and eventful final year. We chose the following officers to guide us during this momentous year: President---------------------------------------Ray Stemen Vice-President--------------------Marvin Griffith Secretary-------------------------Carolyn Myers Treasurer---------------------------Marilyn Jones News Reporter-----------------------------------Don Krouse Mrs. Myers, our class advisor, helped us tremendously to make this, our last year, such an enjoyable one. The class of '51 accounted for innumerable accomplishments and indeed did them- selves and their school proud. Of the four Seniors who took the Senior Scholarship Tests, all four ranked, with Bill Myers having first in the county; Don Krouse, third; Carolyn Myers, fourth, and Marilyn Jones, honorable mention. Ray Stemen and Mary Griffith were co-captains of our basketball team and Marilyn Jones served as Editor-In- Chief of the Parrot. Bill Myers and Marilyn Jones, Co-Editors of the yearbook staff, were assisted by the entire calss in editing The Reminder. In the field of music, our class was well represented in the school band, glee clubs, solo work, and in ensembles. Our class enjoyed several parties, especially the one sponsored by us, at which we initiated the Freshies. We had a black-robed jury who passed sentence on the unfortu- nates. Another party was held after our magazine subscription contest with the losers treating the winners to a Canasta party at Marilyn Jones's house. Ask Bill Myers if he likes ripe olives! A royal feast was served at our annual Christmas Party which was held at Ray Stemen's. Contests and a gift exchange completed the evening's entertainment. To provide funds for our Senior trip, various money making projects were carried out. We sold Christmas cards and magazine subscriptions, collected tax stamps, and operated a concession stand at noons and at home ball games. We also sold ads for our Reminder. In April our class turned professional to star in the play, Rest Assured, a three- act comedy by Donald Payton. The cast was as follows: Mr. Morlock----------------------------Bill Myers Mrs. Morlock------------------------Marilyn Jones Mary, their daughter----------------Carolyn Myers Jessica, another daughter----------Nona Altstaetter Mildred, the maid-------------- Mary -Lou Edwards Joe Lanconi, Mary's fiance----------Theron Jackson .Luigi Lanconi, Joe's papa-------------------Marvin Griffith Martha; Luigi's departed wife---Dolores Gorman Lucifer---------------------------Kermit Salisbury Akers, Morlock's Secretary--------------Don Collar George Plew, Attorney---------------------------Ray Stemen Mrs. Schmaltz-----------------------Colleen Vance Dr. Brown---------------------------------------Don Krouse Mr. Black, Mortician----------------- John Smith Jake, sixty year old cockney newsboy--Jack Myers Mrs. Frinck, German Washerwoman--Colleen Vance We had an enjoyable time at the Prom--it was really a big success, Juniors. A trip to New York by train served as a fitting climax to our unforgettable year. 8

Class History In the fall of 1947, eighteen bright Freshmen, destined to make history during the course of the next four years, entered the portals of Vaughnsville High. They elected the following officers to guide them for their first year, with Miss Vera Soldner as counselor. (As you can see from the officers chosen we had a majority of boys. ) Bill Myers-----------------------------President Ray Stemen------------------------Vice-President Donald Collar------------------------ Secretary Marilyn Jones--------------------------Treasurer Marvin Griffith-----------------------------News Reporter We came through the initiation with flying colors and at the last high school party of the year, we succeeded in giving the Seniors a proper send-off. The yuletide season was given a favorable climax by a class party at the home of Bill Myers. The following year opened brightly for a group of studious Sophomores who chose Miss Jones as advisor and a year of fun and friendship began in full swing. We selected the following to see us through our second year: Ray Stemen-----------------------------President Marvin Griffith-------------------Vice-President Carolyn Myers--------------------------Secretary Marilyn Jones--------------------------Treasurer Bill Myers----------------------------------News Reporter We held a successful Christmas party at Carolyn Myers's and presented a hilarious St. Patrick's day program in chapel. At the Junior-Senior Prom (a Southern theme) we donned black faces to provide waiters and entertainers for the upperclassmen. A theater party and a delicious luncheon party afterwards at Gorman's made a prime social event. Fifteen wise Juniors marched into school for the year 1949-'50, going into a year of fun and experience. Electing the same officers as the previous year and with Miss Marie Myers as our sponsor, we started in a whirl of memorable and fascinating events with the Junior play. The play, The Perfect Idiot, was a huge success and will long be remembered for the laughter it produced. Our Christmas party at Miss Myers's was one of the best and our Easter chapel, a mixture of music, fun, and sobriety, was ex- cellently presented. The PROM took us back to the days of the barbershop quartette, bicycles built for two, and the gay ninety atmosphere of Diamond Jim's Tavern (complete with a bar); all lit by kerosene chandeliers, oil lamps, and candles--producing a memory that will linger to every member of our class whenever he will feel the soft breeze of a spring night. Our Senior year arrived and we found Mrs. Janet Myers at the post, ready to guide and help us through this final year. With acclamations in music, scholarship, dramatics, and athletics, our class became the leading group in the high school and to the strains of the traditional Pomp and Chivalry we marched into the auditorium (May 21) to give our last farewell--Commencement! 10
