We were sorry to see her go . Mr. foster had his hands full with the Job as our advisor, but he had the help of the following.offleers; Three months of rest and then back to the hallowed halls of Vaughns- ▼Ills High—this time with the worldly experience of one year behind us at last. We gained two needed recruits to swell our ranks this year------ Bob Reese, from Van Wert, and Norma Oephart, from Lima. Our Sophomore year was spent In quiet (t) study under the able advleorehlp of Mrs. Euhlaan. Quite the prettiest yet they said. The drajtatlc talent of the Jaunty Juniors was displayed In our class olay, The Daffy Dills , which was ably directed by our advisor, Miss Myers. The following offioers nelp- ed guide us through this year: The Junior-Senior Prom was the the crowning event of the year with Its Texan theme. Cacti, a corral, a campfire, soft guitar music, and even a Texas moon helped create the western atmosphere. We looked with longing at the seats filled by the Seniors and longed for that day when we'd fill them. At last J We were Seniors. This was a year to remember. A man on Mars might look down and see wild activity In Vaughnsvllle. It was the Sen- iors, of course i Primping for our senior pictures, wildly cheering for the team, supported by four senior boys, madly selling pop-corn at the games, studying our parts for the play, watching our bank account grow, selling ads for the Reminder, working like beavers to get It out on time, trying to decide on which Invitation to choose, and all the other things, seniors do. Mrs. Myers, with the help of the following officers managed to guide the Seniors through this hectic year. An event which will linger long In our memories Is the Junior-Senior Prom. Also the Bacculaurate and Commencement hold their places In the hearts of us Seniors. Possibly the most exciting event was the class trip to Sault Ste. Marie and Mackinac Island. We all wish to thank our teachers for their efforts to guide us through high school. We will all look back on school as some of the most enjoyable days we have spent. JUNIOR BAND MUSIC The musio department of the school, manifested In the school band, girls' glee, boys' glee, and nixed chorus has been an active group this year. Speolal music for various Community functions, a special Christmas program in connection with the grade school, competition work, a spring auslcal,and music for the graduation festivities comprised the work of the various groups for the year. On March 2 l, a group of twenty students entered in the district solo and ensemble contests held at Bowling Green State University. Ratings received were as follows - Superior; Robert Bryan, singing the tenor solo BGoin' Home ; Edgar Vance also in the tenor competition, singing ■Vale ; and Robert Riley,entered in the baritone class,singing B9ea Fever . Also rated superior was a mixed ensemble composed of Luclle Riley, Donna Belle Hamilton, Doris Jean Dunlap, Carolyn Myers, Marlen Sherrard, Paul Jackson, Lawrence Musgrave, and Theron Jackson. This group sang What If a Day .' B Receiving an BExcellentB rating,the Boys’ Quartette composed of Theron Jackson, Norman Smith, Paul Jackson, and Robert Brvan, sang BAahes of Roses.■ The Senior Girl's Ensemble received a Very Good rating. It was composed of Shirley Jameson, Doris Young, Delores Miller, Janice Smith, Ruth Myers, Lavonne Grubenhoff, Verona Jervis, Donna Belle Hamilton, and Lucille Riley. This group sang BIn Assisi. All that received Superior at Bowling Green will Compete in State Competition, which is held Otterblen College, Saturday, April 23. In the larger group competition at Ada our band received a Superior rating, granting it the privilege of competing in the State finals held in Springfield on May 1 � -. It will be one of two bands to represent the Northwest District in the state finals in Class CC. The Boys' Glee Club also received a Superior rating and will seek to bring honor to the school in the state finals. Last fall the chapter was organized and the officers were elected. In ordei to be promoted from first degree of ureen Hands to Future Farmers degree, the boy must earn two hundred dollars on his projects. The candidates for the State Farmer are chosen by a State Committee. To date Vaughnsvllle has thirteen State Farmers. Those applying for State Farmers Degrees this year are John Foulkes, Bob Foulkes, and Dean Litten. The pre-requisites are good projects, leadership, sports- manship, thrift and at least seven hundred and fifty dollars in project earnings. The F. F. A. boys sponsored a rest Hunt and the losing team furnished an ice cream party to the winners. This organization has been progressing very rapidly and has built a riant in the history of Vaughnsvllle. Alt.ta.tter ‘ • Above ia pictured the Putnair county champions of 1949 and the district runner's up. The Vikings started out in the tourney by defeating Pandora by the score of 59-28. Vaughnsville played mostly second string during the second half. In the second game the Vikings never left the outcome of it in doubt They led by at least 10 points throught the gnme to defeat Ottoville 50-39. In the semi-final game, Vaughnsvllle was forced to fight an uphill battle until the last two minutes to win from Ft. Jennings, 51-45. In the Putnam County finals the Vikings defeated Blanchard ,67-40. To start off the district, the Putnam-co champs played nearly perfect basketball to eliminate first-seeded Ridgeville, 57-49. The Vikings had little trouble with Archbold in their second district game, defeating them by the score of 42-29. In the third game of the district Vaughnsville again defeated Blan- chard, The score this time was 52-48. The Vikings were stopped in the finals of the district by the taller boys from Ottawa Rills, who defeated them 46-35. Tney led 22-20 at the half. It should be mentioned that two boys from Vaughnsville made both the all-county team and the all star district team, namely center, Paul Jackson and forward, Chuck Myers. WE WILL NEVER FORGET Paul'8 very good rebounding that really helped us get through the season and the tournament. Chuck's shooting.ability which amounted to 638 points for the season and now stands as the second highest record in Ohio. Wendell's skill in dropping in a long whenever most needed. Bob's drive and good passing which saved many a game. Ray's scrap and all around ability for as young as he was. Sam's rough and tumble methods that gave many a good man all the trouble and bruises that he wanted. Together this bunch of boys, with the help of the subs, gave Vaughnsville one of their most wonderful seasons.
