The next two games proved to be a let down for last year's county champions since they lost both to a strong Lynden team. The last practice game found the Cubs trouncing the Hamilton Cougars by a score of 4l-26. The regular season started when the Mount Vernon Bulldogs journeyed to Woolley Decem- ber l9 for the first conference game. The Cubs were defeated by a 5-point margin leaving the score 25-30. The Cubs fell victim to the larger Anacortes Sea Hawks Ianuary 16 by a one-sided 31-13. The Cubs then journeyed over to Mount Vernon Ianuary 23 to square themselves with the Bulldogs but were again defeated by a five- point margin leaving the score 38-33. Verne Gee proved to be the mainstay of the team, scoring 21 points for the Cubs. 430 The next gam . was played at Edison Ianu- ary 30 and proved to be an upset when Edison outscored the Cubs to win 31-29. Rothausen and lordon accounted for 23 of Woolley s 29 points. The Burlington-Woolley game played Febru- ary 6 proved to be the highlight of the season with both teams playing spectacular ball. Woolley lost in the closing minutes by 33-32. The Cubs were still not to be denied in the county race when they upset the sharpshooting Concrete Cougars February l3 by a 45-26 score. ln the last game of the season the Cubs ree deemed themselves against the championship Anacortes Sea Hawks on their floor February 20 by a 42-34 count. Verne Gee Woolley s stellar guard was placed on the all-county team with Dave Roth- ausen making a reserve birth on the first all- county teann. Dick Ebeling a sophomore was given honorable mention. Woolley placed two men in the 10 top scores of the county, with Rothausen being tied for third and Verne Gee being tied for fourth.
