ITH a view to promoting higher schola ship in the high school Hansons ewelry Store of Tacoma offered to present a trophy cup to us with the idea that the student who stood highest in point of scholarship durmg each year should be Irene Langhelm was the recipient of this high hon or in 1930 and true to their promise Hansons en graved her name lh large letters on the beautiful cup and presented it to the school This is a very worthwhile gift as it is an incentive to harder study After all the attaining of hugh IRENE LANGHELM scholarship 15 one of the chief aims of any school A goal of this sort is very welcome and we most sm cerely appreciate it Omtorzcrzl Contefi N FRIDAY morning March 13 we held a local Oratorical contest on the subject of the Constitution in the high school auditormm The judges decision lnclicated that the contest was very close, as a tie resulted between ane Shaw who spolce on the subject Webster and the Union and Eunice Arneson, whose oration was entitled Our Lonstitu tion The final decision gave first place to Eunice and second to ane The third place also resulted in a tie between Elsie Adolphson who spoke on A Citizen, His Privileges and Duties under the Con stitution, and Lola Spadonl whose subject was The Constitution The judges were Mrs Edward New, Mrs A Richardson, and Mr McKee EUNICE ARNESON At a later date Eunice went to Tacoma to contest with the wmners from the other high schools of the county There were nine contestants in all at Sta drum where the contest took place Eunice drd very creditable work there and we feel justly proud of her Thirty rev I V -- v , A - ' J 1 1 4- A 4.
